Lebron James (Los Angeles Lakers)

For superstars with endless wealth, I've never understood why they don't accept pay cuts to stack their roster, at least in sports where contracts aren't easily dumped like the nfl.

What good is an outrageous contract if you have to play with big z? (no offense) get lebron, bosh, wade to play together for a discount. The Celtics will retire soon. Play together for 4-6 years, pick up some rings, and greatly enhance your long term value and retired revenue by building a dynasty.

Those three seem capable of sharing the spotlight. Isn't that better than having all of the spotlight and losing more games as a result?

In defense of Z, I think they're a much better team with Z. He has a very unique skillset for a big man that's hard to defend. I've always thought they were lacking another shooter to keep defenses honest. Mo Williams may have been that missing cog based on how they've played thus far.

I know ego is a problem and greed, but I'd argue it accomplishes the opposite. What good is lebron's greatness (like the Detroit series) without rings to show for it?

If I need to stroke my ego, I want indisputable titles. Marino's greatness did him little good in terms of the ultimate measuring stick. I realize I'm trying to use reason where greed/ego are blinding... But it's simply strange to me.

High school superstars don't really go to valpo, even if paid handsomely. Greatness is wasted on a roster of mediocrity. Why do professionals abandon that principle so often? Why do guys in great situations take minor upgrades in cash to waste away on horrible teams? It simply makes no sense. Unless you go overseas and make 5-10x as much coin, why run from greatness?

Anyway, big z isn't one of the Damon Jones type of contracts which hurt Cleveland in recent years, not that I can speak with authority on the subject. Stack the roster and bring Z off the bench

James to wear new 'chalk' shoe vs. Wizards

CLEVELAND -- To launch his newest sneaker, LeBron James and 20,000 fans will turn Quicken Loans Arena into an indoor winter wonderland.
When the Cleveland Cavaliers face the Washington Wizards on Christmas night, James will be wearing a "chalk" version of his signature Nike shoe, a tribute to his pregame ritual of tossing and blowing hand rosin into the air above the scorer's table before he takes the court.
Nike will provide packets of confetti for fans to throw along with James, who began the routine a few years ago.
The "Chalk" shoe is the ninth edition of James' Zoom LeBron VI line. Last month, he wore a "Big Apple" model of the shoe when the Cavs played in New York. The new shoe includes a silhouette of James' chalk toss on the tongue.

It still comes down to greed. Sure, they may consider taking a lower salary, but that also means taking a back seat to the main superstar on the team. KG, Pierce and Allen are only doing it because they know they're near the end of their careers, so to speak. Whether players can give that up in the prime of their careers is another story.

Bosh will do it becasue he's in NBA wasteland. He's a great player but he's still not in the same breath as LBJ and DWade. It will be much easier for him . LeBron is not a selfish player on the court, but could/would he agree to play with Wade, if Wade was getting paid more? Don't think so.

Bad contracs that have killed the Cavs during LeBrons tenure:

Larry Hughes 5yr/60,000,000
Eric Snow 4yr/26,000,000
Damon Jones 4yr/16,000,000
Ira Newble 5yr/15,000,000
Donyell Marshall 4yr/22,000,000
Jeff Mcinnis 3yr/9,000,000
Ricky Davis 6yr/34,000,000
Michael Stewart 6yr/24,000,000
Darius Miles 4yr/13,000,000
Dajuan Wagner 4yr/10,000,000

That's alot of garbage.

Did anybody see the 1.18.09 commerical. It ended up being a State Farm commercial, but it was good cuz LeBron joined the Browns, so that was funny, especially when he blocks the field goal, and when he does the Heisman pose. So then I thought about it and wondered...if LeBron wanted to play football, could he still go to college, play for a year to get ready for the NFL, and then leave? Also, would he enter the draft? And if he could come to Ohio State, don't you think Tressel and Co. should be all over this. I'm pretty sure LeBron would be the best TE in the history of Ohio State.

I've thought about this as well, Lebron at TE would be unstoppable. Think Pryor's TD vs UT no one would be able to out jump this guy.

I wouldn't even mess around putting him at TE I'd put him at WR. I don't want him wasting most of his time blocking DE's and LB's anyway especially in our offense where the TE rarely gets the ball. I'd rather stick him out at WR where when he does have to block he could just annihilate 5-10 CB's all day. I'd bet his speed is just as good as a lot of NFL WR's too. Plus, I'd rather have a CB trying to check him that wouldn't be able to be as physical as a linebacker would, no cornerback would be able to jam him at the line and and no cornerback would stand a prayer of getting a jump ball from him, it would be pass interference or a catch everytime. Just think Larry Fitzgerald, but even more ridiculous.

Even throwing out the absurdity of Lebron going to college his endorsement contracts would make him ineligible. Remember Bloom from Colorado? Different sport, but he wasn't allowed to take endorsements for the other sport and play college football.
Lebron has been out of HS long enough that he could sign with any NFL team that he wanted to. In the NFL he would be like Pryor at WR and the reason that I would love to see Pryor continue to work at WR in the red zone. You would have to double Lebron every play and even then probably couldn't stop the jump ball without a penalty. If you tried to bump him at the line he would probably just run over the CB. Even if you could only use him inside the 20 he would be worth the contract. The biggest problem with the NFL is even the highest payed players make half of the highest paid NBA or MLB players and have half the career longevity. Why would anyone that could be a star in more than 1 sport want to choose the NFL?

I;m still confused by the OU linebacker who had played professional football in some podunk league, but was still eligible to play in the NCAA.

Maybe he paid the money back, I have no idea, but it was extremely odd to me he had played professional football, yet was eligible to play for Oklahoma. I didn't think that was in any way possible.

I think the NCAA said he couldn't play college football while taking endorsements for other sports. No?

Well in fantasy land where this is possible, I would put him at Wr and only play him inside the 25-30 yardline and just throw him fades. If the defense wants to double or triple him to take it away that would leave a ton more options for other players.

Pshhh all of you are wrong. Lebron's a 1 man team. He snaps it to himself, throws it up in the air, He LEAPS, he's got it. At the 20, 15, 10, 5, TOUCHDOWN LEBRON. What a pass from Lebron.
