Lebron James (Los Angeles Lakers)

The biggest asset Miami has is their defensive flexibility. I don't see a lineup Dallas can throw at Miami that forces Miami's hand.

The fact that Dallas will have to alter their rotations is problematic. Throughout the playoffs they have been able to beat teams with a second unit of Barea, Terry, and Peja...I just don't see bench depth as a huge determining factor in this series.

After game 1 it wasn't for Chicago. If Spoelstra is willing to play LeBron 45 minutes a night and D-wade 40+, it negates a deep bench.

But again, I like the size of Chandler and Haywood and think they can provide decent help inside. Haywood isn't scared of laying big fouls, and generally protects the rim pretty well. Chandler can create some offensive rebounding as well as a finisher at the rim.

In the end, I just like the wing play a lot more for Miami. If Jason Terry could grow 3 inches, Peja could learn how to defend, or Jason Kidd could match LeBron's minutes maybe I'd think differently.

we're not talking about bringing in scrubs like kurt thomas off the bench. dallas has a legit bench that can score points for the 2nd unit, something chicago sorely lacks. also, in case you didn't notice, dallas has gone to zone quite a bit this year. if they go zone and force miami to shoot over top, they will negate any of these proported match-up problems you suggest.

I had mentioned zone in a previous post. But a zone wit Barea and Terry out front with Peja roaming the baseline is kind of a scary thought with athletic wings who can penetrate.

The other scary thing about zone against a team like Miami is defensive 3 seconds. It negates the ability of a Haywood protecting the rim as well. All it takes is D-wade or LeBron to attack and the zone breaks down. It's much more effective against a team like OKC who has good players but no-one who can finish at the rim like LeBron or Wade. Dallas will 100% use some zone against Miami....and they'll have to live and die with James Jones/Mike Miller taking open 3's. It will be interesting to see if Miller can continue his hot shooting, and how many minutes they plan on giving to Jones.

I guess the more I think about the series, the more I think it can be broke down this way:

Dallas, IMO due to the match-ups is going to have to work hard for every shot they take. They're capable of making difficult shots, but it's obviously a lower percentage.

I believe Miami will get a lot of easy looks. Dallas will try and take away Wade and LeBron, but there are going to open shots all over the court.

I'm going with the team taking easy shots 100% of the time.

It's unfortunate Chicago has no offense, b/c their defense was pretty stellar most of the series against Miami. Dallas's defense has been solid this year, but it isn't in the same league as Chicago's.

is that all?

In fairness to Dallas, Caron Butler should be playing the 3 not Shawn Marion. It makes a big difference in terms of guys who can match-up with Miami's wings. Typically Jason Terry would sub in for Stevenson providing a nice scoring punch. Now you've got Peja as next man up and he can't guard anything. It'd be a much better option for Dallas to have Marion coming off the bench who can guard LeBron. After Marion at the 3, Dallas has big match-up issues.

In related news, Rick Carlisle is leaving a small sliver of hope that Butler may play. He burst his patella tendon on New Years day, so 5 months ago. It'd be rushed, but you're not in the finals very often....

The scrub named Kurt Thomas started 37 games for the team with the league's best record.

heres the problem i see dallas facing. my guess is miami is going to concede and let dirk get his points and make sure they lock down everyone else, which they definitely can do based on their last two series. the only guy outside of dirk that presents a problem offensively is barea b/c of his quickness or a healthy butler (but caron probably is not going to play big minutes if he suites up). and the problem with barea is that he will be a liability on the other end. i fully expect them to attack barea and make carlisle limit his minutes. this is going to force dirk to put up huge numbers.

on the offensive of end i dont see how the mavs match up. marion did great against durant, but lebron is a different type of player and i think a tougher match up for him b/c of his strength. kidd has also done a great job, but its still a tough match up with dwade b/c of his quickness. as long as dwade's shoulder isn't too much of a problem he is going to have the advantage. that's two wing players the mavs are going to struggle with and they cant go zone b/c of jones and miller coming off the bench. the mavs need to play good team defense and i just don't see them as one of the elite defenses like the bulls or celtics. the problems they will face defensively will have a bigger impact on the series then the mav's depth advantage.

and was so effective, they played a guy with a broken leg for half a game instead of putting him in.

Apparently they should have played him more. He was great last night. It's better to make a 15 foot jump-shot than get destroyed 2 feet from the hoop on pick and rolls, that ultimately lead to transition baskets, after missing the lay-up.

Asik, Noah, and Boozer were all terrible finishers in that series. The pick and pop with Thomas was working last night until Chicago tried to stall the game out.

CHICAGO (AP)—As if the Bulls losing to Miami in the Eastern Conference finals wasn’t enough, Hall-of-Famer Scottie Pippen has added to Chicago’s pain by suggesting that LeBron James(notes) could be better than Michael Jordan.

Pippen stirred the pot in an interview with ESPN radio on Friday morning, saying Jordan “is probably the greatest scorer to play the game” but James “may be the greatest player to ever play the game.”
CHICAGO, IL - MAY 26: LeBron …
AP - May 27, 9:30 am EDT

That set off an explosion on Twitter.

Pippen responded first by posting, “For all of you that don’t know, I played the game you keep watching and cheering.” He softened his stance later, writing: “Don’t get me wrong, MJ was and is the greatest. But LeBron could by all means get to his level someday.”

Jordan and Pippen won six championships with the Bulls in the 1990s. James moved a step closer to his first title when the Heat knocked out Chicago on Thursday, setting up a matchup with Dallas.

Jordan must have really shit on Pippen when they played together. There is definitely no love lost between the two of them.

Scottie is passive aggressively making a claim that he (being Scottie) was a better player than he's given credit for.

His description of LeBron doing all the little things, not just as a scorer, is what Scottie used to do. Scottie used play a lot of Point-forward as well.

This wasn't just a dig at MJ, it was a round-a-bout way to make a case for him being a better player than he's given credit for. Micheal Jordan was the best scorer of all time, but it takes players like LeBron and Scottie to make the team click.

He's a fucking idiot and he needs to realize Jordan was that Bulls team.

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Daniel Gibson took issue with some of LeBron James' comments about his former teammates in Cleveland.
After Miami defeated Chicago last week to advance to the NBA Finals, James talked about his decision to join Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in Miami.
"I wanted to team up with some guys that would never die down in the moment," James said. "The opportunity presented itself with this great organization and we made it happen."

Speaking on The Dugout Sports Show Podcast on Wednesday, Gibson said, "The way it's said, you can't help but take it personal. ... I don't think great players should feel the need to say this about a team or say that about a team. I think what it all boils down to if you're great, you go play great, be great and everybody will realize you're great. And you wouldn't have to let it be known that everybody else was less great.

"Great players shouldn't have to do that.

"So I feel like it's kind of an admission. He might have needed some help. He might have needed to go somewhere and find someone who is a little greater so maybe he wouldn't die down in those moments."
