Learfield Directors' Cup (Formerly Sears Directors' Cup)

OHIO STATE ATHLETICS FINISHES THIRD IN DIRECTORS' CUP STANDINGS FOR 2022-23

As the 2022-23 college sports season comes to an end in June, Ohio State athletics secured a third-place finish in the Directors' Cup.

The National Association of College Directors of Athletics announced Tuesday that Ohio State's 1,210.75 points, accumulated from the postseason success of its athletic programs that competed at their respective NCAA championships this year, positioned the Buckeyes third behind Stanford and Texas but ahead of USC, Georgia and Michigan in the Directors' Cup standings.

LEARFIELD DIRECTORS' CUP STANDINGS
RANK SCHOOL CONFERENCE POINTS
1 Stanford Pac-12 1,339
2 Texas Big 12 1,306.5
3 Ohio State Big Ten 1,210.75
4 USC Pac-12 1,073
5 Georgia SEC 1,072.50
6 Michigan Big Ten 1,045.75
7 Virginia ACC 1,032.5
8 North Carolina ACC 1,030.5
9 Florida SEC 1,001.5
10 Tennessee SEC 1,000.75
This season's finish represents the second consecutive year Ohio State has finished as a top-five athletics program in the standings following a fourth-place finish behind Texas, Stanford and Michigan in 2021-22. It also marks the ninth time the Buckeyes have finished as the No. 1 school in the Big Ten, including eight times since Gene Smith became Ohio State's athletic director in 2005.

I didn't think Texas could catch us. I was wrong. Halfway decent runs by men's basketball and lacrosse, and we would have won the damn thing. The biggest issue is Fall though. We dominate Winter and are competitive in Spring. In the Fall though we don't score a damned thing other than what football brings home.

Headed for our worst finish in a decade (decades?). With men's basketball AND men's hockey coughing up no points, we finished 10th in the Winter standings. For those unaware, we usually win (or at least come in second) in the Winter standings. Fall is a dead zone other than football, and that underperformed. I don't know how long our string of top 5 overall finishes is, but I know it's over.

Looks like we're going to finish up 7th and 1st in the B1G. Not as bad as I feared, but I think any year outside of the top 5 should be considered a disappointment. A lot of things didn't fall our way this year: subpar football finish, women's b-ball exiting the tourney early, and men's b-ball and hockey garnering absolutely zero points. Plus, fencing has fallen back from being in the NC hunt every year to being a solid--but not elite--top 5 or 6 program. Hard to overcome all that happening.

Director's Cup is kinda like the old Davey Crockett saying, when he enters a shooting contest, everyone is playing for second place. Stanford's juggernaut rules, and Texas seems to be taking this event seriously, as well. We'll see how much Bjork signs up for this competition, as A&M doesn't have all the sports that tOSU does. Heck, he'll have his hands full just trying to keep all the balls in the air that Gene did. Plus beefing up the NIL game, etc. I do enjoy the overall sporting aspect of this, as shows the breadth and depth of athletic programs over the nation.
