COLUMBUS, Ohio – Behind a strong spring, Ohio State has locked up a program-high second-place finish in the 2010-11 Learfield Directors’ Cup standings. The finish will mark the highest in the history of Ohio State athletics with a third-place finish in 2003 marking the previous best
Stanford sits atop the standings with 1526.75 points while Ohio State is currently at 1277.05. Although baseball points still need to be calculated, the Buckeyes’ sit more than 100 points ahead of third-place Duke and fourth-place California, placing Ohio State second in the final standings. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 20 sports – 10 women’s and 10 men’s.
Leading the Buckeyes in the spring were a first-place finish in men’s volleyball, a third-place finish in men’s tennis, a fifth-place finish in men’s golf and topped that with a 10th-place showing at the NCAA rowing championships.
Other Big Ten schools with Top 15 finishes included Penn State (11th) and Michigan (14th).
Under the direction of 2011 AVCA Division I-II Men's National Coach of the Year Pete Hanson, the men’s volleyball team captured its first NCAA Men's Volleyball Championship, becoming only one of three squads outside the West to do so, and finished the season as the No. 1 team in the AVCA Men's Division I-II Top-15 Poll for the first time in program history.
The men’s tennis team, led by head coach Ty Tucker, finished third nationally
...
The men’s golf team posted a fifth-place finish behind PING All-Midwest Region selections Bo Hoag and Brad Smith.
...
The rowing team, under the direction of head coach Andy Teitelbaum, finished 10th at the NCAA championships
...
Other Top 10 finishes by Buckeye teams this year included women’s soccer (3rd), field hockey (3rd), football (5th), fencing (5th), men’s gymnastics (7th), men’s soccer (9th), women’s volleyball (9th), women’s basketball (9th) and men’s basketball (9th).

In the most recent NCAA Championships scored, the Cardinal finished third in women?s basketball and men?s swimming & diving and 10th in fencing. Ohio State jumped up to second place with 707.00 total points. The Buckeyes captured the fencing national championship, finished third in men?s basketball, 12th in men?s swimming & diving and 33rd in women?s basketball.
In third place, with 655.50 total points, is Penn State. The Nittany Lions increased their position with a fifth place finish in fencing, ninth place in women?s basketball and 17th place in men?s swimming & diving. Just behind in fourth place with 626.50 total points is Florida State. The Seminoles finished 16th in men?s swimming & diving and 17th in men?s basketball.
Rounding out the top five is Florida with 612.00 total points. The Gators earned a fifth place finish in men?s basketball and finished eighth in men?s swimming & diving and 17th in women?s basketball.
So far the Buckeyes are looking strong in the Director's Cup. The remaining "Winter" sports finish out on April 19th will be Women's Bowling, M/W Gymnastics and Men's Hockey. I believe that the Buckeyes are very strong in both Men and Women's Gymnastics, I'm not sure where that actually stands in relation to Stanford.

Anybody have a vibe on the Director's Cup and Buckeyes chances?

You guys still ahead of Pedstate for the #2 position. UF at #4, trying to get a leg up with women's lacrosse. We need to get a rifle and fencing team. Or bowling. Or all of them.

Great job, as always. Nobody will beat Stanford, they of the bazillion sports.

That's a limited view to assume an increase in sports will ultimately lead to more points. More non-revenue sports equals the less you can spend to keep your women's lax coach or keep up the softball facilities.
