Ohio State 10th in national standings
Ohio State ended up 10th in the Directors' Cup standings for 2008-09, which determine to rank which Division I college has the most successful overall athletic department.

Some highlights for those who don't want to follow the link right now:
-- Stanford won, for the 150th straight year....actually 15th. Somewhere, Andy Geiger is bursting with pride.
-- OSU was second among Big Ten schools. Behind Michigan. Chew thoroughly before swallowing.
-- It was OSU's highest finish since 2004, when the Buckeyes were fourth. OSU's best finish was 2003, when it was third....averaging out the results, OSU finished 18th in the first five years (1994 to 1998), then had a good run in the middle six years, averaging 9th (1999 through 2004). In the past five years, the average is 12th (2005-present).

Buckeyes Ranked Eighth in Current Directors' Cup Standings
COLUMBUS, Ohio - With nine NCAA championships completed, Ohio State currently sits eighth in the 2009-10 Learfield Directors' Cup Standings. The Buckeyes have finished in the Top 25 nationally in football, field hockey, men's soccer, women's volleyball and men's cross country.
Ohio State is one of five Big Ten Conference programs ranked in the Top 25, including Penn State (4th), Michigan State (15th), Minnesota (20th), and Wisconsin (21st).
The Ohio State football team led the way, earning 75 points after a Rose Bowl victory and fifth place finish while the men's soccer and women's volleyball teams each earned 50 points with 17th place finishes. Men's cross country brought in 32 points after finishing 21st nationally. Both the women's field hockey and women's soccer teams earned 25 points after ending their respective seasons ninth and 33rd in the country. The women's cross country team rounded out the Buckeyes' scoring, earning 16 points after running to a 29th place finish.
The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 14 sports -- seven women's and seven men's.
The first Winter Division I standings will be released Thursday, March 11, 2010. All standings published midseason are unofficial, as official standings will be published upon the completion of the spring season. Complete standings and the scoring structure can be found on NACDA's Web site at www.nacda.com.
