LB Tommy ‘Two Thumbs’ Eichenberg (Rose Bowl Def MVP, All B1G, All-American, Las Vegas Raiders)

Remember when everyone thought Tommy played slow. He's not playing slow now.

He's evolved into a fantastic player but I feel like a lot of this is scheme as well. Knowles has him playing clean and Tommy is doing his job by making the plays he's supposed too. All the credit to him, but it's a plan that is working extremely well.

So, said another way, players executing a bad scheme make very good / great players look bad.

That is my assessment. Tommy started playing at this level in the Rose Bowl before Knowles got here, so part of it is that Tommy saw the light and started elevating his performance. But under Knowles it seems apparent that Tommy is flying to the football and always seems to be in the right position, so I will give a lot of credit to scheme as well.

The amount of improvement has been outstanding. He is disruptive, diagnoses well and looks explosive. But another thing that’s fucking awesome to see is the defensive line penetrating so fast and watching Allen have literally no choice but to try to bounce outside right into Tommy’s arms. He needs to stay on their good side.

I’ll be exceptionally curious to see how he fares in more demanding coverage situations or assignments as it relates to more threatening offenses or individually recognized players.

The essence of the "spill and kill" method that Knowles loves. Individual stats often suffer when a technique is used like this because the entire Defense has a job first and when they are all doing it in unison, the team is much more successful than individuals. I think thats also why we don't have a guy crushing the sack category because the discipline we're playing with is so much improved. They'll come I'm sure of it and I'd say it might start this Saturday.
