LB Scott McVey (official thread)

McVey Lands Michigan Offer

Ohio State Buckeyes College Football Recruiting, OSU Big Ten Football, OSU Basketball - Bucknuts.com

Cleveland (Ohio) St. Ignatius linebacker Scott McVey has added to his scholarship offer list. Michigan is the latest to extend a scholarship offer to McVey.

The 6-foot-1 and 220-pound McVey helped lead St. Ignatius to a Division I state championship during his junior season. McVey made 143 tackles including 18 sacks as St. Ignatius finished with a 14-1 record.

McVey has scholarship offers from Ohio State, Michigan, Boston College, Michigan State and Iowa. He has said on several occasions that the Buckeyes are at the top of his list.

McVey = Spielman from an instinct perspective. What a footbal player!

Certainly. It is likely that McVey would have many southern offers but it is well known he is staying north, so the USC's and the Florida's of the world aren't wasting their time. scUM may get a visit, but the only real competition is BC. Even if ND offers, I think they are too late now. BC has been in contact with Scott since his sophmore going on junior year, so that is why they are the only school that stands a chance (imo). With all that said, I would be absolutely shocked if McVey didn't end up a Buckeye.

BC being jesuit is likely a big deal as well. That's why a lot of ignatius and st.x guys go there.

Scott McVey - College Football Recruiting 2010 - ESPN

Evaluation

McVey may not possess great size or speed measurables on paper but this guy is a football player who simply has a great nose for the ball and a relentless motor between the white lines. He actually has good bulk, functional strength and is put-together; has longer arms buts lacks great height and a large frame for future development. Most productive attacking off the edge and from the backside. Flashes great first-step quickness, chase and closing speed. Experience at end shows; he attacks half the body and can bend flat down the line of scrimmage when blitzing off the edge. A guy you need to keep blocked from the backside. Covers a lot of ground quickly in the short-area and generates great velocity closing in space. Delivers the blow of a much bigger defender on contact. Very strong, collision tackler. Read and reacts quickly when employed between the tackles and shows he can beat linemen to cutoff with his good lateral burst and quickness. Our main concern is that he shows some hip stiffness and lack of great fluidity when playing out in space. Displays wasted motion at times turning and changing direction; we question whether he will be able to breakdown and mirror quicker skill players on the perimeter. Shows adequate coverage skills. Range and speed are good outside but maybe be more effective in the short-area at the next level. Flashes better short-range burst than sideline-to-sideline speed. When we project him on the inside, his ability to disengage bigger college offensive linemen is a concern; has difficulty when teams run directly at him at time and does not consistently show good hand/shedding technique. He is better playing covered up and stacked. Overall, McVey's tweener inside/outside status does offer his future defensive coordinator good scheme versatility and he is a guy with a lot of intangibles you can't coach. Motor never stops and he can set the tempo of the defense with his big play ability. Good, solid linebacker prospect.
