LB Ryan Shazier (All B1G, All-American, 2017 Pro Bowl)

My thoughts on you. Te'o is a solid LB, but he's significantly overhyped.

Butkis, Nagurski, Bednarik, Lombardi, Walter Camp, and Maxwell disagree. Thats a lot of awards for someone who doesn't live up to the hype surrounding them. Te'o is only the second player to ever get the Butkis, Nagurski, and Lombardi. You would think wheres theres smoke, theres fire.

Not trying to take anything away from Shazier here, he's an awesome LB and I think could very well eclipse Hawk and Little Animal when his time is finished. Shazier is still a Sophomore and most likely hasn't even hit his full potential yet, which is scary. Just surprised to see you say the above statement, Mili. I would think that you probably followed Manti's recruitment closely coming out of Hawaii and know that so many prospects often fail to live up to their recruitment when their careers are over. I haven't done the history research yet, but I can't imagine many Hawaii prospects have brought home many more awards than Te'o in the past.

Correction. He's a sophomore this year. Next year, he'll be a junior.

You can take those awards and shove them up your Domer ass. There's no fucking way that he's the best player in the country...the reason he is winning shit is that he happens to be playing on the current #1 team in the country, which also happens to be about the most out-hyped program in the sport's history that just happens to be in their "wake up the echoes" season. If he weren't playing for ND--this year--he woudn't have even been a finalist for many of the awards he won, let alone the winner. He's a truly great player, but the Domer hype, along with the sympathy for what he went through at the beginning of the season, has got him the awards...period.

By the way, it's "Butkus" with a "u", dipshit.

So I should automatically think he's the best player in the country just because he's from the state in which I currently live. :roll1:

McShay's top 25 underclassmen

12. Ryan Shazier, Ohio State Buckeyes
Sophomore linebacker
Shazier is a bit lean and still growing into his frame. However, he is an exceptionally gifted athlete who is a sideline-to-sideline defender, one who closes in a hurry and flashes an explosive strike as a tackler.

Shazier is a three-down linebacker who can match up in man coverage and have an impact as a blitzer. He still has room for development in terms of instincts and getting stronger at the point of attack, but he is already the Buckeyes' best playmaker on defense. He'll only get better with more experience.

Exceptional player but two things moving forward that I think can make him elite: 1) Weight room...if he adds 10 good pounds, those punishing hits he doles out won't be so punishing on him and he'll waste less energy in bringing guys down. 2) He needs to quit over-extending himself to make tackles...I think this is a big reason for some of his missed tackles earlier on. Trust your athleticism and angles, take the extra step, and he will get more square to the ball carrier and get a surer tackle. If these two things transpire, I think Shazier takes the next step and becomes an all-time great. Oh and plenty of hardware, plus a good shot to be a Day 1 pick. Ama thing is he has plenty of room for improvement, yet he is already a spectacular player.
