LB Ross Homan (official thread)

Of course they fail to mention he'd just come back from an injury in the past two weeks. Certainly not his best two games as a Buckeye, but considering the circumstances, not the best sample of work to judge his pro potential by.

Perhaps you're referring to something other than the article two posts up, which did mention that fact.

He's going to have a long career in the NFL. Cut from the same cloth as Hawk and Laurinaitis.

He very well may have a long NFL career; he is a very good player with NFL potential. However, I have to disagree he is not in the Hawk/Laurinaitis (or Speilman, Tovar, Kelley, Johnson, Katzenmoyer, Gradishire, and Cousineau for that matter) category.

And I have to disagree with you!!! Last year he missed a game and still lead this team in every stat that matters!!! NFL scouts graded him higher than any D play on the team. This year he has missed 3 games so the last couple of games has not been his best but the kid will be just fine at the next level!!!

I don't think all those LB's you mentioned are on the same plane either. But I was referring more to their character traits and skills. Blue collar guys with big time work ethic and of course a lot of talent.

I think when Ross is %100 healthy, he is as good as any LB except the very elite. He has been a step slower since coming back from injury, but he still makes great reads and never gives up on plays. Even in his sub-par games, he's often able to get to plays that aren't his primary assignment. If the author of the previous article had truly been following Homan's career, he'd know that the last two games are not at all indicative of his abilities. Homan was all over the field last year, made some really spectacular plays in coverage. His athleticism should not be in question, and I think that will become evident in the NFL combines.

Homan didn't like to stand, watch

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Five Ohio State players might find out next season that standing and watching games their senior year is no fun. They can take Ross Homan's word on it.

"It hurts worse than the injury," the OSU senior linebacker said of the two games he missed this year because of a foot sprain. "It really sucked to be on the sideline."

Five Ohio State juniors might face a similar predicament. Quarterback Terrelle Pryor, running back Daniel Herron, receiver DeVier Posey, offensive tackle Mike Adams and defensive end Solomon Thomas last week were suspended for the first five games of the 2011 season because of NCAA violations.

No one knows, however, if the five will return at all - they could apply for the NFL draft.

Homan had that option a year ago, when he came off a strong junior season in which he led the team in tackles, capped by a solid game in the Rose Bowl win over Oregon. But he didn't second-guess his decision to return, even after suffering the foot injury in the first half of a 31-18 loss at Wisconsin on Oct.16.

"That wasn't going through my head at all, none of that stuff," he said. "When you go down, you just want to get better, rehab and get back as soon as you can."

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Linebacker Ross Homan is the only Ohio State player who will take part in the Senior Bowl, the most prestigious college football all-star game, which also features a week of practice and evaluations by NFL scouts and general managers.

?Ross is a fine football player and played a big role in leading the Buckeyes to a great season which culminated with a Sugar Bowl victory,? Senior Bowl President and CEO Steve Hale said. ?We believe he?s a great addition to our North roster and we?re really expecting him to perform well down here next week.?

"He capped off his career with a team-high nine tackle effort against Arkansas in the Sugar Bowl. For his career, the Coldwater, Ohio native racked up 287 total tackles, 17 tackles for loss and seven interceptions."

Congrat?s to Homan on the invite and great career at OSU!!!!

Ross informed me that he will be in a "skills competition" down in Dallas during Super Bowl weekend. He got a call from whomever is in charge and was invited to come. Ross should find a nice home in the NFL for quite some time I think.

Monday Practice Notes: Used at both middle and on the outside. Struggled in coverage yet played well against the run. Very effective in the box or up the field but not so much in reverse.

According to Charlie Bernstein of FOX Sports, the Jacksonville Jaguars were seen talking to a few players today at the Senior bowl. Among the players observed, the Jaguars spoke to Michigan State inside linebacker Greg Jones, Ohio State linebacker Ross Homan, and ECU wide receiver Dwayne Harris.

I mentioned Greg Jones in my "Five to Watch" story earlier. Ross Homan, another linebacker, is shorter like Greg Jones. He measured in at 6-0 and 230 pounds. He's an active linebacker with a good motor and is very adept in zone coverage. He's not a great athlete and lacks top end speed, and is a bit small for the inside at the NFL level.
