LB Ross Homan (official thread)

Not even close? Really? Ross has been great, for sure, but it seems like all the LBs have been making plays when given the chance. I'm going to have to agree with Buckfan09 on this one.

"Homan is the most consistent performer on the defense. No doubt fans were wowed by the one-man wrecking machine named Cam Heyward last weekend at Penn State, and obviously Thad Gibson and Kurt Coleman have had their moments this season, along with Brian Rolle. But the one guy who seems to show up week-in and week-out and make big plays is Ross Homan. The junior out of Coldwater finished with a team-high eight tackles Saturday, which vaults him ahead of Rolle for the team lead with 84 tackles this season. He also had a key interception in the fourth quarter that set up the long Saine touchdown run, and simply seems to be developing that James Laurinaitis knack for being around the football. Stats agree with me. Homan leads in almost evryone of them."

Here is a quote that agrees with me from Theozone. Also take a look at the stats Homan leads the D in almost everyone of them, remember Homan missed a game because of injury. Rolle and Spitler have had good years, but Homan is a step above at this point!!

Are you sure? You're making quite a leap from "most consistent performer" to "best LB we have and it's not close". I'm not saying he hasn't been the best overall but, rather, that the other LBs are doing a damn fine job as well.

I agree the other LB's are playing well as is all the D. I feel Homan should be 1st team all big 10, not sure I can say that about any of our other LB's.

Ross Homan proves he fits the mold of great OSU linebackers. It?s not time to starting talking historically when it comes to Ross Homan (probably never will be), but this kid has turned into one heck of a football player. While Brian Rolle brings the flash ? and he had another big game this week ? Homan brings the lunch pail and simply goes to work. He had 12 more tackles Saturday, giving him 96 for the season, including a team-high 49 solo stops. He blends Rolle?s speed with Austin Spitler?s physical style of play to form the Buckeyes best all-around defensive performer (apologies to Coleman and Cam Heyward).

Among LB's, Homan was:
- Leader in tackles (96 to Rolle's 92)
- Tied for 2nd in TFL( 5 to Rolle's 7)
- Easily first in INT's (4 to Spitler and Rolle's 1 each)
- First in sacks (2 opposed to Rolle's 0 and Spitler's 1)
- First in both forced fumbles and recoveries.
- First in Solo tackles...this is what really seperates him imo...he had 49 solos, Rolle had 34...great tackler in space

Beyond statistics, I think Homan was our most consistent linebacker day in and day out. Rolle and Spitler both performed great but disappeared from time to time, though they had moments where they took over, especially Rolle. Additionally, Homan was voted 2nd team All Big-Ten by both coaches and the media. I think it's fair to say he is our best linebacker, but I don't think the disparity is great.

How all 3 PSU LB's make either 1st or 2nd team is beyond me. Didn't they miss numerous games due to injury during the course of the year? How do Iowa and PSU have as many people as they do on that list period?

Just b/c OSU didn't have the star-names coming into the year on that defense doesn't mean you didn't see them develop into Big 10 studs right before your eyes. Somebody had to be making plays on that defense b/c they damn played their asses off this year.

Did I miss something or did OSU not beat both those teams and win the conference outright? Statistically they stack up with both defenses in all catagories. Sorry, I'm just bitter. I guess we get the last laugh, we are playing FOR THE ROSES!!!!!!

Go Bucks!!!!!

Damn he had 12 tackles on Saturday? I guess that little article is right. We were all amazed with B Rolle and didn't notice that Homan was still doing work. Keep playing hard Ross and you can help prove why we are Linebacker U and not those chumps from State Penn.

Not much more needs to be said, other than the best is yet to come with this kid!!!!

Yeah they took the "no name" defense to heart did the media... I thought Lee was up and down all year for PSU as was Bowman. I thought Rolle would sneak in there also for first/second team.

Just like the media to rob an OSU linebacker though. Member Poz robbing Hawk? What a crime that was. I remember A.J was visually upset when he lost that award, you could see it in his face he knew he was the better LB'er.

Homan should'a been first team but oh well.
