You know what? Chicken butt.
Can not be overstated how important this guy is. Add him to Berger, Booker and Hubbard and I can sleep a little better with the LB position.

He comes in and Shazier leaves, and he has a very good chance at starting at middle linebacker for ohio state from day one. Whoever emerges from other LB's will be put on the outside and he might have a great opportunity. He can be the leader of the ohio state defense for the next four years. He is being recruited with playmakers everywhere and he will be a huge piece of great defense to come.
In years past, i would agree with you. With the current depth chart, and if we lose Shazier on top of that, he would be competing with a small group of kids who have very little experience if any, or have underperformed so far. The starters will not be a very good group necessarily. They will be the best we have. This problem is not going away next year. It will be up to the young ones and how fast they pick it up and jell together. We may want to take a step back before anointing a HSer a starter for an elite D1 football team. The same was stated about mike Mitchell last year(and Curtis grant and etienne Sabino before that) and he's redshirting now. Let's get him in the fold first and then see where it goes. If a 5star or top recruit doesn't make a contribution in year 1, isn't always a bad thing. Lets hope he can make the rotation first or contribute on special teams before we think he's ready to start, IMO.
Anything is possible, but as the previous poster noted, folks say this stuff each year. And each year, and older classmate rightfully claims the position. Honestly, it's highly doubtful that he steps right into the lineup. Highly. But I'd still expect him to see some playing time.In years past, i would agree with you. Exactly, and every so often a guy steps up like Bosa, or Katz, or Hawk.Anything is possible, but as the previous poster noted, folks say this stuff each year. Katz is the only LB I can remember playing as a starter as a Freshman other than emergency duty. Hawk played some and a lot of special teams but not a LB starter. It just doesn't happen much. I'll be happy if RM contributes. I sure hope he doesn't have to start.Exactly, and every so often a guy steps up like Bosa, or Katz, or Hawk.

This kid wraps up... which is something we dearly need
The unknown is, can he cover - something most newbees can't do very well in this next stage
If he can cover, he'll play early
