LB Raekwon McMillan (New England Patriots)

The Derrick Green situation was nothing like the McMillan situation. From what I've read Ohio State backed off of recruiting Green.

I'm not saying their situations are anywhere near alike - I'm saying that just because it initially seems like a recruit is a lock to come here, things might not work out. FWIW I think Raekwon is a Buckeye

Scout $ - The Opening: Raekwon McMillan Update

7/2

OSU, Alabama, Clemson in that order...UGA and Florida hanging around...Coach Meyer is the #1 reason he favors OSU.

Glad to see this. There was some beating of chests from the UF faithful about Kwon visiting there two consecutive times recently. To see that they aren't in his top 3 after those visits is nice.

247 - The Opening Review: Apocalypse

7/9

McMillan and athleticism- This type of setting is never one that can show exactly what a five-star linebacker prospect like Raekwon McMillan (Hinesville, Ga./Liberty County) can do because his game reaches its full potential in pads. That being said, the 6-foot-1.5, 243-pounder looked good in coverage and tested well in the shuttle (4.15 seconds), showing his ability to move laterally is elite. We often compare McMillan to New England Patriots linebacker Brandon Spikes and his game is similar. What?s scary is McMillan may be more athletic. McMillan has maintained Ohio State as his leader for most of the process, but Alabama, Clemson and others are in the mix.

Raekwon McMillan: UGA gets good news after 5-star's visit
By Michael Carvell

Probably the best news that came out of Raekwon McMillan?s recent visit to UGA is that he plans a return trip.

McMillan is the Liberty County High School star who is rated as the nation?s No. 1 prospect at inside linebacker in the 247 composite rankings.

Before McMillan attended last week?s UGA?s Dawg Night prospect camp, he was unsure if he would take an official visit with the Bulldogs later this fall. In other words, it could?ve been UGA?s last chance to make an impression on the 5-star recruit.

Flash forward to post-camp: UGA still has some catching up to do with co-leaders Ohio State and Alabama, but the Bulldogs are still in the sweepstakes.

?Ohio State and Alabama are fighting towards the top, and then there?s Clemson, Georgia and Florida,? McMillan told the AJC.

?Now I think I?m going to take all five of my official visits. I?m trying to take all five, but I may not. The way it stands now, I?m trying to make a trip to all five.?

McMillan got inspired about UGA after a ?Dream Team? speech from Mark Richt, who is trying to encourage the state?s top players ? most notably McMillan and Norcross High School defensive end Lorenzo Carter ? to stay home and play for the Bulldogs. Richt and McMillan had a long conversation at camp.

?He was telling me that everything I was looking for out of state, I can find in-state at the University of Georgia,? McMillan said. ?I know that what he said was true, but I don?t really know where I am going to go. I?m still just trying to figure it out. It really depends on how the season goes all of my top five schools.?

McMillan traveled to UGA for the overnight trip with his high school coach, former UGA tight end Kirk Warner. (McMillan says Warner never pushes UGA or any specific colleges on his players)

What?s next for McMillan? He says he plans to go to Ohio State this weekend for camp, and then get ready for his senior season of high school. McMillan will announce his college choice after the season and says the recruiting process is getting easier.

My take on this is that it's good that he saw uga in person first. Everything there is like their coach: facilities are ok, stadium is ok, town is...ok. He'll see the qualitative difference at tOSU right away.

I love Ohio State as much as the next BPer but to call Athens, "ok"... Maybe I am alone on this but Athens is a very legit, super cool, college town. Probably one of the best quite frankly.

I believe he has been to Ohio State multiple times already.

I'm in full agreement Ferrari, athens is an awesome college town. Great music, good bars, very cool people. And the stadium is better than ok. Let's not bash other schools for the sake of bashing(unless it's scUM of course).

Not bashing for the sake of bashing or, actually, even bashing at all. I went to uga my first two years before transferring to Oregon State. I've logged a lot of nights in Athens bars and have been to more than a few games at Sanford. Athens and UGA just don't compare with tOSU in my most humble personal opinion.
