Raekwon McMillan: UGA gets good news after 5-star's visit
By Michael Carvell
Probably the best news that came out of Raekwon McMillan?s recent visit to UGA is that he plans a return trip.
McMillan is the Liberty County High School star who is rated as the nation?s No. 1 prospect at inside linebacker in the 247 composite rankings.
Before McMillan attended last week?s UGA?s Dawg Night prospect camp, he was unsure if he would take an official visit with the Bulldogs later this fall. In other words, it could?ve been UGA?s last chance to make an impression on the 5-star recruit.
Flash forward to post-camp: UGA still has some catching up to do with co-leaders Ohio State and Alabama, but the Bulldogs are still in the sweepstakes.
?Ohio State and Alabama are fighting towards the top, and then there?s Clemson, Georgia and Florida,? McMillan told the AJC.
?Now I think I?m going to take all five of my official visits. I?m trying to take all five, but I may not. The way it stands now, I?m trying to make a trip to all five.?
McMillan got inspired about UGA after a ?Dream Team? speech from Mark Richt, who is trying to encourage the state?s top players ? most notably McMillan and Norcross High School defensive end Lorenzo Carter ? to stay home and play for the Bulldogs. Richt and McMillan had a long conversation at camp.
?He was telling me that everything I was looking for out of state, I can find in-state at the University of Georgia,? McMillan said. ?I know that what he said was true, but I don?t really know where I am going to go. I?m still just trying to figure it out. It really depends on how the season goes all of my top five schools.?
McMillan traveled to UGA for the overnight trip with his high school coach, former UGA tight end Kirk Warner. (McMillan says Warner never pushes UGA or any specific colleges on his players)
What?s next for McMillan? He says he plans to go to Ohio State this weekend for camp, and then get ready for his senior season of high school. McMillan will announce his college choice after the season and says the recruiting process is getting easier.
