lancaster is an occ school.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ohio_Capital_Conference

basically all the suburban kids in central ohio. not the samer conference it was 7-10 years ago with a lot of the districts now with 3 schools (and i guess 15-20 or so years ago when most had one school) but the population has boomed in much of the districts. good quality competition (not st eds, moeller, etc) but on par with any conference in the state. so if you went high/medium/low in rankings id put the competition in the high category, and traditionally occ schools are generally well coached.

OCC teams have won three Class AAA football championships in the 2000's: UA (2000); Hilliard (2006 & 2009). Two teams also lost in the semis: (Pickerington Central (2008) & Worthington Kilbourne(2004). No OCC team made it as far as the AAA semis between 1980 and 1999.

Congrats Luke!!

I also am from Lancaster and have enjoyed seeing this kid play since 8th grade. Won't find a harder worker or better kid. Will NEVER see this kids name linked to any scandal ever. Will make the Buckeye family proud both on the field and in the classroom (30 ACT, 4.4 gpa).

im not sure what your point was rather than use a score of clearly erroneous data. that being said most of the occ schools are quality football, granted they have 1200-1600 kids versus some of the larger schools you see in ne/sw ohio (and not to mention the 1000 boy catholic schools). its also worth mentioning the impact of geographic alignments, etc. that being said some around here are old enough to remember say the arlington juggernauts of the 60s-early 70s

granted its irrelevant, solid competition in the occ, lancaster produces another buckeye and it appears a stellar student athlete who desires to be a buckeye!

Dang. About the only thing I got right in the previous post was providing the link! Thanks for posting the accurate history of OCC performance.

looks like a hard-nosed player, although a bit stiff. Will be interesting to see how he develops...looks like a Middle Linebacker all the way. Think he'll be a nice run stuffer and excel at shooting gaps.

Love these kids who are committing to the Buck before Aug 12th...have to love the passion and attitude.

Roberts verbally commits to OSU
Jul. 14, 2011

LANCASTER -- Two days after his hiring, Ohio State already is receiving dividends from new linebackers coach Mike Vrabel.

Lancaster senior linebacker Luke Roberts verbally committed Wednesday to Ohio State, two days after he met with Vrabel and head coach Luke Fickell in Columbus.

"I really liked my meeting with coach Fickell and coach Vrabel. I felt like it was the right fit," Roberts said. "Having (Vrabel) as linebackers coach will be a great asset. With his ability and knowledge, he can really help me get better."

Roberts had offers from eight other Football Bowl Subdivision schools, and he considered Purdue, Wake Forest, Arizona and Cincinnati before deciding to commit to the Buckeyes.

Despite the May 31 departure of coach Jim Tressel and the school's Aug. 12 meeting with the NCAA's committee on infractions that could result in possible sanctions, Fickell calmed any of Roberts' concerns about the state of the program, he said.

"It's still Ohio State," Roberts said. "They've been successful for 40 years, and they'll always be successful."

Roberts, 6-2 and 225 pounds, was offered on Monday, discussed it with his parents and "prayed about it," he said, before making the call yesterday. Roberts, who has a 4.3 grade-point average, received offers from Purdue, Wake Forest, Cincinnati and six other schools. He said two factors swayed him.

"Ohio State has a very good business school, and that's going to be my major," Roberts said. "And considering I'm a linebacker, the hiring of coach (Mike) Vrabel was a huge plus for me."

Bobby Carpenter seemed to do alright coming out of Lancaster.

Also, Vrabel seems to have wanted the kid, so any real or perceived lack of competition seems moot.

Ahhh, another kid from Conkle's Hollow area.....it seems to me that OSU has always had a kid or three from the Lancaster or Logan area. Beautiful area, and produces some great athletes (Katie Smith, Rex Kern, Bobby Carpenter (his Dad, Rob), as well as Jim Cordle. Great Buckeyes all.
