They could be just buying time, who knows. Selfishly, I wanted him in the class.

Not grades, but OSU wants him to raise his standardized test score, per Birm. I've read that he's a 3.0 student.

I think the narrative that most everyone is saying, is that they want Pope now, because the kid wants to commit now...
Problem is, it seems to me, like the staff likes the position they are in with Tuliapupu, and also on waiting until the season ends to see who leaves, whether due to NFL draft, attrition and of course graduation(has already been accounted for). OSU can be quite selective at this point with Mitchell and Gant as commits, I think the story changes if OSU had lost Mitchell to FSU, but right now the staff can afford to be choosey and see if they really want 3 or 4 LBs in this class after taking 2.5 LBS in 2017(White seems to change positions weekly at this point). I think Pope knows the recruiting game well, and is saying all of the right things and keeping his options open. This storyline shows that recruiting ain't for the faint of heart

You know what? Chicken butt.
My take is the more information you have the better. So if you are a recruit and the staff says 'we like you but we want to see better grades or test scores' or 'we want to see you run in person first' of if they just plainly tell you that you are currently plan b or plan c wouldn't you rather know that as a recruit? I'd rather know I only had an offer, not an OFFER than to be totally in the dark. People that don't like offers, only OFFERS would rather tell less players they are interested in them and only talk to the commitable ones? Seems the staff knows what they are doing and players respect their transparency. But that's just my view from the BarcaLounger.

Not to diminish Chatfield at all, he is a great player...but I would be more than ok with that trade. Really a huge fan of Pope.

Different players. Chatfield is a tweener, who I'm sure would have success here. But Pope is a true athletic LB who WANTS to be a buckeye

Definitely different player, I am just thinking more in terms of total numbers in this class, more specifically for DL vs/ LB. Anyways, looks good to me.

From a pure numbers and allocation standpoint, a swapping of chatfield and Pope would probably allow for OSU to take oweh and Parsons without numbers concerns.
