LB Jordan Whiting (transfer to Louisville)

BG $

Excellent read...Jordan discusses his education being the top priority and his personal goal for every game: 10 tackles, 2 sacks, and an INT. In his first game this year, he had 11 tackles, 1 sack, and broke up a pass.

Trinity linebackers a double whammy
Whiting, Weitlauf among state's best

They're the top two tacklers on the No. 1-ranked high school football team in Kentucky, and they consider themselves good friends.

Just don't expect either to concede when asked who is the faster Trinity High School inside linebacker, Jordan Whiting or Wes Weitlauf.

Whiting, a junior who has committed to play at Ohio State, has been timed at 4.59 seconds in the 40-yard dash.

At 6 feet 1 and 231 pounds, Whiting is the more imposing player. He leads Trinity with 271/2 tackles, including 21/2 tackles for loss and one sack.

Whiting, who chose Ohio State over Kentucky, considers himself equally adept at stopping the run and dropping back in pass coverage.

"For myself, it's about being a team player as a whole," he said. "I don't want to be on the field and do one thing better than the other. I just want to do my part and know that the other people will be there to make plays, too."

Trinity coach Bob Beatty said Whiting is the ultimate team player.

"I don't know of anybody who doesn't like Jordan," he said. "He loves the game, but he loves working out in the weight room. It seems like nothing is a chore for him."

Quarterback Will Stein threw four touchdown passes as the host Shamrocks (6-2, 3-0 Class 6-A, District Five) topped the Redhawks (1-7, 0-3).

Trinity's Tim Phillips ran for two scores and caught another while racking up 166 rushing yards.

Seneca's lone score, a field goal, came early in the first quarter.

Trinity's defense was terrific, too. Led by senior lineman Collin Saylor and junior linebacker Jordan Whiting (who already has committed to Ohio State), the Rocks limited Lafayette to 25 yards in the first half and 167 for the game.

Ohio State fans smiling

Ohio State fans have to be smiling these days.

The Buckeyes are undefeated again this football season and ranked No. 1 in all of the polls. But those Buckeye fans around the Louisville-area have more to be happy about.

Trinity linebacker Jordan Whiting has already committed to Ohio State and the 6-foot, 225-pound junior is having a sensational season for the Shamrocks (8-2).

Whiting leads the Trinity defense with 73 total tackles, including 68 solos. Whiting also has 10 tackles for a loss and two sacks on the season.

He teams with senior Wes Weitlauf (46 total tackles, 9 for a loss and two interceptions) to make up one of the best linebacking duos in the state of Kentucky.
