LB John Simon - (2012 B1G DPOY, Super Bowl Champ)

Splits the double team about as good as I've seen. Understands what leverage is all about. Very quick down the line of scrimmage as well. One thing I did notice, is that he has a tendency to drop to his knees to make tackles but that is very easily corrected. Definately would be a great asset to Ohio State.

After watching him against Mentor for the first drive alone I knew he was a 5 star and likely the top DT in the country. Shoot, he's probably the best DL in the country and he is good enough of an athlete to slide out to DE as well, though with his great leverage I think he ends up at DT. Thinking about a DT/DE rotation of Goebell, Simon, Mobley, perhaps Adams from Arizona, and possibly Rowell would be quite formidable.

Throw in Williams and hopefully Scruggs on the end, and that would be sick...

I know it's early but it could rival the 2002 DL.

Plus guys like Cam Heyward, Dexter Larrimore and Thaddeus Gibson who will be seniors when Goebel, Solomon Thomas, Nathan Williams, and the rest (Mobley?, Scruggs?, Rowell?) will be juniors and Simon and the rest of the 2009s are sophomores. That really could be one amazing group of players.

let's not get ahead of ourselves. we're talking about high school seniors and juniors here as a opposed to a group who anchored a national title football team. will smith was incredible. i've never seen a big-time college defender play in more spots on the field than him.

I watched YCM play Bishop Watterson last night. I posted this in the Mooney thread on BP...but Simon is a beast so I am going to pile on here.

As RB07 said, he play DE or DT. In fact, I love how the Mooney staff allowed him to play nose, a three technique, and also a true DE. Pictures on a website don't do him justice. He is built like a rock, almost no gut/fat around his abdomen.

He mandated double teams all night. I do think he tended to overpursue on a few plays - instead of flattening out and reading/reacting - but to be honest, he lives up to expectations. He is as good as his press clippings - extremely quick and lively feet, excellent motor, splits the double teams well, outstanding use of his hands and leverage when engaging OL (agree w/ you RB07). Extremely versatile player who could easily pack another 35 lbs of solid mass on his frame by the time he is playing on Saturdays.
