Speaking of high praise, Rolle gave some to defensive lineman John Simon, who appeared in all 12 games as a true freshman last year and should see significant playing time this fall. Rolle expects Simon to earn All-America honors before his career is done, in large part because of the work he does in the weight room and the film room. "If somebody's going to try to outwork him, they'll going to have to work really hard," Rolle said. "And he's going to outwork that effort. He's going to be a guy who will be a star here the next couple of years."
Hard-working Simon has big day

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
The assumption was that John Simon might be tough to live with after the sophomore defensive lineman scored the only touchdown yesterday in Ohio State's jersey scrimmage, a 78-24 win by the defense.
But the assumption would be wrong.
"I think that's the thing about our defense: We are so unit-oriented," defensive tackle Dexter Larimore said. "You saw that today. He got a touchdown, and everybody rallied, 'Hey, great job.' But, you know, he wouldn't have scored that touchdown if (Nathan Williams and Cameron Heyward) wouldn't have forced it.
"We really came together today. When the twos (secondteam defense) were out there, the ones were on the sideline, 'Let's go.' When the threes were out there, it was, 'Let's go.'"
On the biggest play of the scrimmage, quarterback Terrelle Pryor couldn't handle a low shotgun snap from Michael Brewster on a third down from the 10-yard line. As Pryor reached for the ball, Williams and Heyward converged, the ball came out and Simon pounced on it in the end zone.
That Simon was there at the right time was no surprise, considering the way he earned playing time as a true freshman last season.
"Him in a nutshell? Hard worker," Larimore said. "You can't find anybody who works harder than he does. And you can't find a guy that it means more to.
"That's the biggest reason he's so good, because when he's in the weight room, he's in the weight room 24-7. He's in the film room when he's not in the weight room. I don't know when he goes to class, but he finds room somewhere."
Simon, who also had two sacks, was not available for comment.
