zordich is the lil bro of psu zordich?
i forgot stoops is gone from up there...
John Simon (Youngstown, Ohio / Cardinal Mooney) was highly debated for a slot in the rankings. Simon is a tough, high-motor defender. He is an easy kid to like as a football player; he lines up and battles in the trenches. He needs to add bulk and watch his pad level. This Ohio State commit is a good prospect who will be watched closely as the season kicks off.

I don't think it's that big of an outrage. Simon is a seriously big guy, but if you go with the ESPN recruiting board's weight for him, 265, he's pretty light for a major D-1A defensive tackle. And if you go with the weight he gave recently, 275-278 (which I suspect is more accurate than ESPN's listed weight), he could still probably benefit from packing on another 10 lbs. or so. There's no doubt the guy's got the muscle, and I'm not defending leaving him off ESPN's top 150, but if you're going to highlight an area of improvement for him, adding 10 to 15 pounds would be one of the obvious ones. And pretty common for a high school DT, even a particularly good one.akgoel77;1224355; said:Yeah I normally don't waste my time with rankings too much...but this is just ridiculous..."add bulk"? Seriously? ESPN might as well just admit they throw darts at a board... If you are gonna make excuses for why certain people are left off the list at least be remotely rational. What a joke!

that picture is also a year old.ashlandbuck;1225498; said:If this pic is accurate then he doesn't need to add any bulk to be a D1 lineman.

Ohio State-bound John Simon ready to lead Mooney?s attack
The veteran two-way lineman has his sights set on another state title run.
111?The field used to go this way,? he said, pointing north and south. ?It was a rock field. After a couple practices, all you had was stone and dust.?
Things are a little different now ? for one thing, the turf practice field used to belong to the New Orleans Saints ? but not that different. Simon still recognizes a few teachers walking the hallways and his old coach, Don Bucci, is still roaming the sidelines, albeit as the athletic director.
They say that in Youngstown, 30 years ago was yesterday. At Mooney, it seems true. The younger Simon grew up listening to his dad tell stories about his high school days and there was little doubt which jersey he?d wear one day.
The elder Simon was a lineman who lifted weights and enjoyed the physical part of football. (If he didn?t, he certainly wasn?t going to crack Bucci?s lineup.) Those traits were passed on to his more talented son, who as a kid followed him to the gym to lift weights. It eventually became evident that his son had the gift. He first played running back and quarterback when he was younger, first for the Austintown Little Falcons, then for the St. Charles Crusaders (where his dad is still a coach) before his size prompted a move inside.
?One of the things that Big John lacked was the flexibility his son has,? said Bucci. ?And they?re both strong, but his son is on another level.?
Simon?s strength and his motor set him apart. He benches 445 pounds, squats 700 and has done 47 straight reps of 225 pounds on the bench press. (For comparison?s sake, the NFL combine record is 51 and Simon?s mark would place him second all-time.) He plans to major in sports therapy, a natural fit for an exercise nut. But his love affair with lifting isn?t cosmetic; it?s main purpose is to make him a better player.
?Probably the first thing you think of when you think of him is his motor,? said Fecko. ?He can play at a really high level for a really long period of time.?
im not eric l, or barry b but id be willing to say that i think youll see some changes injohns body. i think you may see more emphasis on some of the other skills rather than the weightroom. yoga, stretching, leaning him out a tad while maintaining his strength. no body is a finnished body even when a kid leaves college...It's pretty rare that a HS kid doesn't need to add bulk to play D-1A ball. It's not worth noting if all he has to add is 10-15 lbs. He'll gain that his first year.
