Come on, ease up. I know Ohio State has become a recruiting power, but USC's ability to pull recruits has been unparalleled. It's a statement to beat them straight up for an out of state prospect. Couldn't be more content as a fan. Hopefully this won't spoil me too much.

Say what you will about our current run of success, but Ohio State hasn't been able to hold USC's jock over the last few years in terms of pulling in OOS 5-star talent. USC even came in and ganked Fred Davis from Ohio a few years back and then stole our 5-star contingency plan, one Dwayne Jarrett, out from under our feet. When was the last time tOSU pulled a California talent that USC was targetting away from them. This is a big deal and I hope the success continues in the future.

"Talent" is what wins on the field, and has nothing to do with the opinions of so-called recruiting gurus. I think that Ohio State has accumulated quite a bit of "talent" during the JT years, and the Buckeyes have performed at least as well as USC during that time.

And, FWIW, I'd take 2-star "local" kid Brian Robiskie over Dwayne Jarrett, Patrick Turner, or Vidal Hazelton any day of the week....

beauty is in the eye of the beholder amigo...IIRC, Brian Robiskie had offers from Miami of Florida and Ohio State and a few MAC schools. I would take Robo over Fred Davis AND Dwayne Jarrett...

I agree completely. I think we develop players better than anyone in the country. It'd be nice to see what we can do with more highly-touted players though.

this is what irks me more than anything regarding recruiting. it's the playstation 2 NCAA football mentality that some folks have. as evidenced in this thread:

osu took 2* brian robiskie and 3* malcolm jenkins and both are going to be 1st round picks in all liklihood. so, therefore, if osu lands a 4* or 5* recruit, they will turn him into some sort of football demi-god.

The staff does a tremendous job identifying talent. Some of it is high profile (Ginn, Whitner, Wells), some of it is not (Laurinaitis, Jenkins, Russell, Robiskie).

Yes they develop talent as well as anyone, but they are not magicians. Many of these kids lack the exposure & coverage, not the talent, that higher ranked kids receive. Case in point, OSU is bringing in a high profile set of recruits, but look at the way our recruiting gurus gush over the barely noticed Nathan Williams.

Or Sabino's teammate, Travis Howard. Does the premiere CB factory in america really offer kids outside the top-35 at their position? Or is his ranking and exposure too low?

Keep in mind when you are watching Etienne's film or listening to him speak you are watching/listening to a 16-year old...he doesn't even turn 17 until next week! Great physical and mental maturity for such a young student-athlete...

Etienne Sabino's (Miami/Dr. Krop) commitment to Ohio State on Thursday night was by far the biggest news on the recruiting trail this week, but not a shocking revelation when looking at the top-tier talent already headed to Columbus in 2008. Scouts Inc.'s No. 1 inside linebacker prospect is impressively OSU's eighth ESPN 150 prospect out of its 13 total commitments, displaying the Buckeyes selective recruiting power.

Aside from boasting an exceptional class in terms of skill, plucking three high-profile prospects out of the state of Florida -- where there is unparalleled speed -- might be Ohio State's biggest accomplishment. Size and strength on both sides of the line has never been an issue, but we did see the Buckeyes struggle to match the University of Florida's speed last year in the National Championship game.


Sabino and committed cornerback Travis Howard, also from Dr. Krop High School, could ignite a south Florida pipeline up to Columbus and thus raise that level of team speed.

"I kind of wanted to get out of Florida. Nothing against the Florida schools, I just wanted to branch out," Sabino told us on Thursday.
Looking ahead to 2009, the region is once again loaded with speed, and Dr. Krop might claim some of the best talent of any school in the Sunshine State. If more Florida prospects decide to branch out to OSU in the future, it could be an ominous sign for the rest of the Big 10 and maybe the entire country.

Another banner article by ESPiN. I just love the way this clown paints the Bucks as having a problem with team speed. I highly doubt he's even watched one game the Bucks have played this year. I hope the Bucks play LSU in the Nataional championsip game in Janaury so we can shut these critics up once and for all.
