What's cool about adding a new commitment is that we're also getting another recruiter.

He did say he would recruit South Florida but I don't think we have any Floridians in serious contention at this point. Ben Jones is likely to go to Miami and Orhian Johnson it seems we aren't pursuing real hard. However, I think there are some '09 guys he could help us out with, like Petey Smith. On a side note, having Sonny Speilman at Krop has paid huge dividends in '08.

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Ohio State landed a major commitment last night when linebacker Etienne Sabino chose the Buckeyes over Southern California.
Sabino, who is 6 feet 3 and 230 pounds, from Miami Krop High School, made his announcement on ESPNU. He told The Dispatch he picked Ohio State for many reasons, one being that he wanted to leave the state and broaden his horizons.
"I just think Ohio State is a great place for me," said Sabino, who visited the weekend of the Michigan State game. "I like the people there, the coaches, and I really got along well with the players. I am very fired up. I am very happy with this decision."

Can we even fathom how big this committment is? Not just that he is #1 ILB in the nation, but we just beat USC out in a recruiting battle. This is a huge step for tOSU. Welcome aboard Etienne, you'll be a first rounder someday, but don't mind if i bask in the glory of your college days first.
A huge step? Like we're Northwestern?

The Dispatch is hands down the best paper outlet to cover recruiting and OSU football. Granted they are from Columbus and should be, they really do an excellent job with their articles. Etienne really appears to be well spoken and articulate in that video though. Seems like a Tressel recruit all the way :osu:

Wait til you see the headline.......lol

Etienne Sabino's (Miami/Dr. Krop) commitment to Ohio State on Thursday night was by far the biggest news on the recruiting trail this week, but not a shocking revelation when looking at the top-tier talent already headed to Columbus in 2008. Scouts Inc.'s No. 1 inside linebacker prospect is..........

Re: (Scout.com)
"Biography:One of the top linebacker prospects in the entire state of Florida, Sabino finished his junior season with 131 tackles and eight sacks; he benches 370 pounds and has a 32-inch vertical jump.
Sabino reports a 3.0 core GPA and has an 1180 SAT. "I'm graduating early and I'm going to be taking summer school (English IV and Spanish II)," Sabino said. "I really want to get ahead and be more prepared. I want to play spring ball and I think it'll benefit me because I'll get to know their style and play book early."

Welcome aboard; good decision to enroll early, looking forward to seeing you here in the Spring.

Yeah, seriously. Where is this "woe is us, we don't compare to USC" nonsense coming from? Since 2001 we've had a better record, and we've played in just as many NC games. We both have seven Heismans, and we've had more players drafted in the first round than them.

Congratulations, Etienne! You are now part of a very special family that is capable of doing tremendous things. All of us here wish you a fulfilling and fruitful career here at Ohio State.
