LB Etienne Sabino (official thread)

Since what was initially debated was head to head success vs. woes, here is the breakdown since '04 on how we have faired against Petey when both schools have offered on Rivals:
'04
---------------------------------------
OSU got: Teddy Ginn 5*
USC got: Fred Davis 5*, Dwayne Jarrett 4*
- USC 2, OSU 1
'05
---------------------------------------
OSU got: Maurice Wells 4*,
USC got: Brian Cushing 4*, Luther Brown 4*, Mark Sanchez 5*, Walker Ashley 4* (didn't qualify)
- USC 4, OSU 1
'06
---------------------------------------
OSU got: Chris Wells 5*, Ray Small 4*, Robert Rose 5* (it was also said that Schwartz would have been offered by USC in '06 if he wasn't a Buck already)
USC got: David Ausberry 4*, Allen Bradford 5*, Vidal Hazelton 5*, Stafon Johnson 5*, Antwine Perez 4*
- USC 5, OSU 3
'07
---------------------------------------
OSU got: None
USC got: Broderick Green 4*, Everson Griffen 5*, Ronald Johnson 5*, Kris O'Dowd 5*
- USC 4, OSU 0
'08
---------------------------------------
OSU should get: Micheal Brewster 5*, Jake Stoneburner 4*, Etienne Sabino 4*(maybe Shugarts?)
USC should get: Blake Ayles 4*,
- OSU so far 3, USC so far 1

- We generally don't fare too well against USC head to head but this year has been different. Usually it goes geographically more than not but this year is unique that we have fought them off for 2 highly ranked OOS players that they wanted bad. This is likely another thread in itself but I just thought I would do a comparison.

Top linebacker prospect commits to Ohio State

Saturday, November 10, 2007

Ohio State landed a major recruit Thursday night when linebacker Etienne Sabino of Miami, Fla., made a verbal commitment.

The 6-foot-3, 228-pound senior is the top-ranked inside linebacker in the nation and the 49th-best prospect overall, according to Rivals.com. He turned down offers from Southern California, Florida and Miami.

I caught up with Etienne Sabino after his live commitment to Ohio State University Thursday night. Here's a quick chat with Krop's monster linebacker, who is rated the top inside linebacker in the country by Rivals.com.

Q: You had over 40 scholarship offers, what separated Ohio State from the rest of the pack and who were you seriously considering before you made your choice?

A: It came down to Ohio St. and USC. I attended a camp at Ohio State recently and earned camp MVP honors and that's what really did it for me. They were my last official visit and I knew that's where my heart was. The atmosphere was great.

Q: What does their linebacker situation look like for next season?

A: I know they have 1 starter graduating and could have 2 others leave early to the NFL, so once I go in there and start working hard, I know I'll have a chance to crack the lineup quickly.

Q: When did you take your visit?

A: I was there during the Michigan State game. It's an incredible experience on the field during one of their games. I can't wait to be a part of it.

Q: How were the people in Columbus, Ohio like?

A: They live for that team. They're very knowledgable. They recognized me a few times on campus. They must have looked me up on the internet. They were like "Hey, that's Sabino."

Sabino and fellow Krop defensive back Travis Howard have each committed to Ohio State.

Etienne says he fell in love with tOSU, the coaches, and the fans. Great read again.

Nice to see Etienne say he is looking forward to learning under James Laurinaitis next season

It is a good year to be an Ohio State Buckeye recruit as it seems that many of the current commitments will represent their future team at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl that is held annually in San Antonio, Texas. J.B. Shugarts and Etienne Sabino are the latest OSU verbals to be named to the game.

NW's Forston, Krop's Sabino chosen - 11/17/2007 - MiamiHerald.com

Two more of Miami-Dade County's top prospects were named to the eighth annual U.S. Army All-American Bowl game this week.

Northwestern senior defensive tackle Marcus Forston and Krop linebacker Etienne Sabino join Homestead linebacker Marcus Robinson on the roster, giving Miami-Dade County its highest number of participants ever in the prestigious all-star game.

Sabino (6-3, 230 pounds) is rated the No. 4 middle linebacker in the nation by Scout.com and is the first Krop player to receive this honor.

"I feel extremely honored to even be considered for the game," said Sabino, who has committed to Ohio State. "All the hard work I put in; waking up at 5 a.m. to run and lift weights. I also would like to thank all my coaches and my teammates."
