LB Etienne Sabino (official thread)

Seeing as "rule of thumb" refers to guidelines to follow when there are no actual established guidelines, I wouldn't worry too much if we weren't the new leader right after his visit per Duane's "rule of thumb". We seen in the past were a recruit has come off a visit to OSU and not named us as the clear-cut leader, yet we ended up getting him (can't recall a specific example right now, but it has happened)...

I'm disappointed in you, here I thought you were going to tell me this was the answer:The Straight Dope: Does "rule of thumb" refer to an old law permitting wife beating?

You know what the definition of "rule of thumb" is?

A man was allowed to beat his wife with a stick as long as it was no larger than the circumference of his thumb.

Leading of course to those with larger wives petitioning for a rule of the wrist, which led to a very funny scene in great but little known movie called The Boondock Saints.

Most recent exhibit -- Thomas, Lamaar.

Nobody was publicly out in front after he visited either Ohio State or Illinois.

Yet he came into the Buckeye fold.

Actually, Lamarr did immediately list us as his leader after all the lovin he got from Hazell on his visit.

but it's not not difficult to find those who didn't. Let's see: Heyward didn't, Chekwa didn't, and a lot of the others are instate kids who really already had OSU #1 in the first place. This rule is really a myth imo. The OOS kids who came mostly were extremely interested in OSU in the first place. Those who were "wow" and placed us as leaders almost always never ended up here (Jarrett, Wright, McClover, Bemoll, oh it goes on and on)

Duane Long described that rule a few years back. Since then kids have become a bit more sophisticated in recruiting. They seem to understand that once they name a leader they are going to get pounded from all sides.

They are playing it closer to the vest these days - as a rule of thumb.

This staff HAS to be looking at more than 3 slots.

Which of Sabino, Mobley, Jenkins, Proyor and Scott are we passing on?

It is a long time between now and February so I project that we will have possibly close to double the slots right now open. No inside information just paying attention to the recruiting game for the last 13 - 14 years. In all of my years I have never seen a top prospect that wanted to be a Buck and the staff wanted that was left out.

No names but with early NFL departures and the fact we will have some transfers especially with how young our 2 deep is we should have spots...imo.

Lastly, I really want this kid included in this class. Great athlete that could project to a few postions.
