LB/DE Mark Johnson (official thread)

Veteran talent scout Randy Rodgers breaks down the top LBs......Mark Johnson...

Another big, special guy. He really has terrific feet for a man his height and build. The interception on the tape shows what kind of hands he has and how well he runs in the open field. He can bend his knees for a big man and will be really tough to block. Would be a load on the blitz.

As has been pointed out in other recruiting threads. The star rankings are very subjective. Some of the people involved have never seen some of the players. And are just using other reports. There's a lot of hype for certain colleges, Notre Dame for one, and it tends to bump up players choosing that school.
Relax, and try to enjoy the recruiting season. [no smiley]

I apologize if I missed the information if it's already been posted but it seems like Mark here hasn't been mentioned much. What's been going on with him? Thanks for anyone that takes the time to respond.

Edit: Completely forgot, becaue of the amount of kids that enrolled early, that quite a few haven't made it on campus yet. Thanks for the response.

I assume it is just because he still is in high school and not on campus yet. Once he gets here, he is going to be a major player for us. COuld be a MIKE, but also has all the skills/speed to be a Bobby-esuqe OLB/Rush End.

The thing that jumped out from the interview is Johnson's maturity. With most of the underclass LB talent playing on the outside (Homan, Laurinitis, Freeman, Terry, Grant) it is conceivable that Johnson will be a major player for 07-08 starting spot at MLB, provided that he plays a lot of special team this upcoming season.

This is the part I love that shows an OOS player can "get it":
“That was a great game and they had great fans and I’ve always remembered that,” Johnson said. “And they lose all their linebackers so the jobs are wide open. They have great coaches as well and they play in the Big Ten.”

I find it very interesting that he's willing to play Will, Sam, OR Mike. Really like the quote where he says he's interested in playing the Will because he wants to make a lot of tackles. He should be a VERY durable player for us!
