LB/DE Mark Johnson (official thread)

Great news... we're filling the LB need rather nicely (understatment of the century I know:wink2: )... another OL or two and I'm real happy with this class...

Welcome to the Tressel Vessel, congrats on picking the buckeyes!!!

From Bucknuts...Mark confirms his committment, calling OSU the best opportunity he could receive. No word on whether or not he will take any more visits.

After reading the BSB article about when he committed, I doubt Mark takes any more visits.

Well even if he was to take other visits I think he is very solid to tOSU. I look for Mark to have a chance to at least get time on ST next year, but he could also have a chance to come in and get early pt on Defense, b/c of his size. He will probably be around 245 by camp.

Dont know if this was mentioned yet, but at 6'4" and 230, at age 17... is Mark looking more like a DE in the future?? You have to think he's going to add 20-30 more pounds in the nexy couple years... he is going to be able to play MLB at 6'4", 260 pounds??

BTW, i think this kid the best LB we're going to get in this class, just wanted to know at his size, if he's going to be able to stick at linebacker?

Why, oh why, oh why, do people always try to move LBs to DE when they look like they'll get bigger? Carpenter is 6'3" and is listed at 255 (but you know he's 260-270) at the Sam, so I'd venture to say that Johnson could easily handle the Mike at 250-260 at 6'4".

I actually think it's a valid point to bring up when discussing a recruit and their versatility. Like with Moeller, we talk about the possibility that he could play safety. I think it's a fine quality for a recruit to have that they are of the size that allows them to be flexible with position. It's why JT refers someone being in the Big Speed category as opposed to a set-in-stone linebacker.

It happens in nearly every single linebacker thread. If he's big, folks talk about moving him to DE. If he's smaller, they talk about moving him to safety. All our main linebackers (Hawk, Schlegel, Carpenter, D'Andrea) are in the 245-260 range, which is where Johnson will most likely be after S&C.
