LB Curtis Grant (National Champion)

From what I rememember from last Fall, Curtis had a tough time learning schemes and adjusting to the demands associated with playing LBer in college. I remember getting the feeling that Vrabel had taken a special interest in Curtis, and that he was making significant progress. I thought he was noticable out there on ST, but I think he's gonna go off when he just lets loose and plays. We saw how much of a wrecking ball Shazier was and I think it had a lot to do with him just going balls out and making plays rather than thinking too much, a problem I've seen with Sabino from day one. No question we have some of the most athletic LBers in the conference, but we had some of the worst LBer play in the conference last year. Lets turn that around and get back to being LBer U. I think Curtis will play a big role in that!

Curtis and the other middle linebackers are the key to getting our defense back to silver bullet standards. If he can step up and be the player most people think he will be, the bullets will be back next fall and the Buckeyes will be a top 5 team. I have no doubt the offense will pick up and do great things when this defense becomes the immovable object again.

Hopefully Storm and BINO can really have great Senior seasons. And if Grant can step up and take over one of the positions, then all the better. I'm really optimistic about Crowell (sp?) as well. If he has fully recovered from his injury and can pick up the system mentally, he has the physical ability to contribute as well.

Hopefully Crowell comes back full strength, as I thought he was vastly underrated in HS...and it would really hurt to basically have McVey and Crowell never even hit the field in S&G from a depth perspective. As for Grant, I think we see great things from him next year in spurts. I think Sabino is finally clicking, which will minimize PT, but I still think he will shine when/if he shares time with Klein.

Can't wait to see how the incoming class of LB's create competition. I think Curtis will respond.
This, also with Fick back at LB coach and Sheridan, with his experience coaching LB's (I know he'll probably concentrate on DB's) tOSU's youthful group of fast, hard-hitting Backers will be something to watch. Add this to the group up front that should keep blockers off the LB's and the potential is there for a lot of :yow1: hits

Amen to that! I'm sure Grant will be right in the mix for PT this season.

We were spoiled here going back to the Big Kat. Seemed like we always had great play makers at LB. Last year, no one never really materialized except for maybe Shazier, but he was playing on one leg at the end and didn't get into the lineup until late.

I think the biggest upgrade in LB play will come from Meyer's insistance that everyone think, compete, and not lose. He seems to have set it up that you will pay the price and make plays, or you won't be out there or even on the team. He will force the cream to rise to the top. There was a malaise over the 2011 Buckeyes, and I understand the challenges that coaching staff faced, but they can't have a repeat of that kind of play.
