School: Richmond (Va.) Hermitage
Buzz:Grant is listed at 6-foot-3 and 222 pounds, but he appears to be bigger. With huge shoulders and a big upper body, Grant also has long arms which allow him to cover a lot of ground. He still has room to add weight to his lower body which will improve his explosion. He's already one of the most physical players in the country and when he reaches 245 or 250 pounds as a middle linebacker, he has the chance to be a bigger Ray Lewis in college with his size and intensity.

Buzz: Grant looks bigger than his listed size and the speed he generates when tracking down a runner or receiver from his middle linebacker position to the sideline allows him to simply blow up opponents upon contact. Grant is an intense linebacker who is a rare combination of a sure tackler who still delivers consistent and constant punishment with each hit.

I wonder if we're putting the full court press on Grant (and Sturdivant) now that Wallace is headed to Oregon. Not saying that we weren't before, or is a LB not as much of a need with Crowell committed and Perry for '12

I remember Richmond, Va., Hermitage linebacker Curtis Grant telling me he was concerned with Meyer?s health until the two had a very deep heart-to-heart over the summer and he was cleared of any worry about Meyer.

A month ago, I had both penciled in as Florida signees on National Signing Day. Now, I still think Grant, who has had Florida as one of his top schools for a very long time, will end up a Gator in the end

Going back to Grant, he?s made a very strong connection with Meyer. He?s been quiet about recruiting because of his senior year, but that will definitely change in December. If he visits Florida in December, I wouldn?t be surprised to see him commit shortly after. One major reason for this feeling is that he?s been very upset about Florida?s season, like a fan would be upset. You don?t normally see that with recruits who didn?t grow up fans of a school. He?ll be one to watch in December.

Hermitage edges Bird to win Central Region Division 6 title

Curtis Grant recovered teammate Brendon Riddick's fumble in the end zone for the game-winning touchdown with 3:34 remaining as Hermitage rallied to beat L.C. Bird 17-14 before a packed house at Bird.

Better known as an all-state linebacker, Grant plays offense only in certain packages for the Panthers. He was in the right place at the right time and alertly scrambled to corral the ball when Riddick lost control just before reaching the goal line.

The ball nearly bounced out of the back of the end zone, which would've resulted in a touchback for Bird. But once the 6-3, 230-pound Grant got his large hands on it with a couple yards to spare, none of the Skyhawks was going to pry it away.

"This is my family. I'd do anything for these boys," Grant said after leading his jubilant teammates in a post-victory celebration.

Grant's effort, which sends Hermitage (12-0) into next Saturday's Division 6 state semifinals in Virginia Beach, provided the final salvo in a back-and-forth game that saw three lead changes in the second half.

Grant has a college-ready body, but has an excellent grasp of the mental side of the game, which helps him quickly recognize a play. He moves well sideline-to-sideline, sheds blockers and hits hard after using his speed to track down ball carriers. Grant has yet to decide on what college to attend.

No, I saw nothing that looked remotely like a "gator chomp."
