Joking, I think getting him away from the east coast schools (Maryland, BC) will be a much bigger hurdle than Hawaii.
In any other camp, Conner Crowell from North Point (Waldorf, Md.) would have been the headliner. He's a fast-twitch kid who excelled in pass rush drills. Lightning quick off the ball, Crowell was strong in coverage and looks like a natural fit at weakside linebacker.
Top linebacker in no rush to make choice
While the trend is for high school football players to make their college choices earlier and earlier - several local juniors already have announced their picks - North Point All-Met linebacker Conner Crowell is in no rush.
"I think all the schools I have right now will wait for me," said Crowell, who is 6 feet 1 and 215 pounds. "And if they don't, I'll just choose another school."
Crowell attracted plenty of attention last season as he made 100 tackles, intercepted four passes and had four sacks as the Eagles had an undefeated regular season.
Crowell holds eight scholarship offers and visited half of those schools this spring, taking trips to Maryland, North Carolina, Ohio State and West Virginia.
Rutgers, Duke, Connecticut and Hawaii also have offered and - although it might seem more cost efficient to make an official, college-paid visit - Crowell said he plans to visit Hawaii this summer. His parents are from the islands and he has a cousin who is a graduate assistant coach there.
This spring, Crowell is participating in track and field. He throws the shotput and discus - no surprise there - and also is the biggest 100-yard sprinter on the track.
"Yeah, definitely the biggest guy out there running it," he said with a chuckle.

Testing to impress
Conner Crowell (Waldorf, Md./North Point) had a strong day and despite having several offers, watching him made you wonder why he doesn't have more. Throughout the day the outside linebacker prospect showed his athleticism. He posted an impressive 4.51 40-yard dash and looked very smooth running it. He posted good scores in the short shuttle (4.26) and three-cone (7.39) and notched a 31-inch vertical. He continually looked light on his feet and smooth in his movements. He also displayed the ability to combine a physical nature with that athleticism. In coverage drills against the running backs he was able to quickly get hands on the backs as they came out of the backfield, was physical with them, and could turn and run and keep tight coverage. One of the strengths that Crowell felt he had as a linebacker was his ability to cover backs in the passing game and he proved that in drills. He says he has offers from Maryland, Ohio State, West Virginia, Penn State and Connecticut. He plans to visit Penn State and UConn next week.
