It's safe to say that JL will definitely let the defense know how important The Game is in November...
This is always my worry with former players. Fans want the nostalgia of that former player coaching their former team. But the reality is, most make average to terrible coaches. They don't understand that most players don't have their god given talent or their drive to be great.
Re: former players and the (rightful) skepticism of just tossing around names. I don't see Malcolm as a random draw.
Lauriniatis was a 3* recruit and wasn't the physical specimen that, say, Keuchly or Patrick Willis were.
Malcolm was a 3* recruit. A tall, long armed boundary corner who lacked elite hip fluidity and quickness to play CB in the NFL.
My point, is that both of these players were great because of their willingness to play physical, play fast and most importantly - intelligently. Their hardwork and commitment to being better football players, despite not being the best athlete's at their respective positions, very much falls in line with the mold Hartline fits.
If the problem then becomes them seeing recruits and players not putting in the work to make themselves better (great), then I can't picture better role models and coaches who could not only point that out, but push young players to find possibly find that inner fire
That cerebral, football I.Q, combined with a patient intensity tends to make a great combination for quality coaching.
I believe JL will do great things here.
