He probably shouldn't talk about it but I don't know if it is even possible to police this stuff.

Here's the thing grouping this story with Antonio Pittman's tweet about tats for free for years, the SI.com story about agents paying off Santonio Holmes when he was at OSU, Clarrett's Mr. Such and such story(which sounds more and more true by the day), Troy Smith's indiscretion. It brings to light that the folks in charge are overwhelmed or not policing their kids enough for this to happen. This stuff calls for a public lynching and we're gonna get it.

You can't control the offers. You can monitor the acceptance - which is what Geiger was trying to do by having someone patrol the parking lots. The NCAA calls it monitoring.

Please be more over-the-top. Thanks.

That seems like an overly pessimistic point of view at this point. The NCAA investigated the Clarett fiasco on three separate occasions and found no wrong doing despite the media firestorm and the lasting national perception of the program that it caused.

A media firestorm has once again been set off and more and more of the seemingly damning allegations are being proven wrong every day. I'm not saying Ohio State is going to avoid punishment in all of this, but the perception of the wrongdoing and the reality are seemingly miles apart at the moment due to a lack of information to the general public and countless rumors, accusations, and superfluous stories from the media and fans alike.

I understand that you are somehow an "insider" and may know more than I do about the situation, but the instances you used seem to have little bearing on the current situation. Obviously fans across the country use those things in forming their opinions, but I would hope that the NCCA won't. In fact, I would hope that the NCAA uses past examples of Ohio State being model citizens and going all out to work with them in compliance as a positive.

Naive? Possibly. Optimistic? Absolutely.

Have you even CONSIDERED the possibility that we're going to get hammered? I don't KNOW that we're going to get it, but I'm going to be happily surprised if we don't. That's not pessimism, that's just an honest assessment based upon all the stories out there and the public cry for the NCAA to get tough and say enough is enough.

As for Brian's comments, it does show just how easy it is for an athlete to get benefits...even when you don't want them.

Actually, expecting the worst is literally part of the definition of pessimism.

Not really. I look at it like I look at losing games. I don't expect it to happen, but I will deal with it if it does.

Since the SI story was more interested in rehashing 20 year old YSU stuff, can I assume that "what's coming" will at least be current, or is Ohio State going to have to answer for Corny Greene getting a free handkerchief in 1974?

Edit: Apologies to Greene. I have no idea if he ever even used a handkerchief. But... what the hell... I'm getting into journalism now, so who fucking cares if I have any facts to back up my allegations?
