Lawrence Cager (WR New York Jets)

I saw a quote of his somewhere where he said that the coaches mentioned that they were getting full and wanted to get a committment soon. He just wasn't ready. He won't decide for another month probably. I wouldn't completely shut the door on him yet, but I'd put the chances of him being in the class a long shot.

I think with the staff seeming to put all their focus on getting 2 Dlineman and Briscoe, the door on Caver has been shut. Especially since they were trying to get him to commit as well and he didn't. Its on to the next one. This 2015 class seemed to be focused most on shoring up the defense and getting Oline depth and we did tha . The staff seems to want a QB in each class and possibly a RB, they have that as well. And 2 big WRs, with one possibly that could play TE. Another WR just wasnt needed, and as we've seen this year, Washington and Bennett haven't left the field, we need DTs. And with so many teams now running spread offenses, we can always use speedy athletic DBs. Best of luck to Lawrence, a few months ago he wouldve been an awesome get, now he's just not a big deal to this class.

I think it was a nice way for OSU to say they were moving on. Again, keep in mind that OSU isn't rushing the guys they really want.

I don't know the whole story but the kid is now scrambling to find a school that will take him since Notre Dame just passed as well (and they were also in his top 3).

I guess I probably would.

What you touch on is a huge thing to always consider and with the case of LC it's a perfect example....recruiting is fluid. Coaches like Urb know what they need to do to keep the train rolling. It rarely hinges on one or two players and when it does, you can tell because Urb gets intimately involved himself - see Curtis Samuel, Torrance Gibson, several LB prospects recently etc. LC has a ton of potential and will probably be a great player but there are lots of paths to success as a team and there are constantly evolving needs, aka: fluidity. If he wanted to commit earlier he would have been in due to his upside but considering where this class sits now he isn't seen as a "must" get. The clock has been ticking and although he is wanted, there are other needs and Urb isn't going to "hold" a spot for him. I assume this was communicated to him over the past few weeks and both sides are basing their next moves on this.

Agreed. And how the fluidity would work much differently if Cager had committed a few months ago. Cager now sits in a crazy position, as few teams now have room for him or a need for him. I would really like to see him in the Elite 2015, but it's just unrealistic with the numbers left. And like you stated, those who are seen as "must gets" will get the full Urban treatment, and this is no longer the case with Cager. Though he'll be a very good addition to someone's class.

That's exactly how I see it. Kind of weird really. This kid just doesn't seem to have the time to mess around that he thinks he does. Of course, as stated, he has loads of potential and will not be hurting for opportunities. I sure wished he found a way into this class.

Rumor is he wanted to commit to Bama, but parents wouldn't allow it....which put him at Miami....we'll see if it sticks.
