Lawrence Cager (WR New York Jets)

@rivalsmike
You've got to read between the lines here.

Cager had OSU near the top until Urban and the coaches did their in home. Everything changed then. Cager admitted they told him "spots were filling up fast" and there might not be a place for him.

The fact they're not willing to hold a scholarship for him says a lot. They're giving Landers time to make his decision. And they're not rushing Gallimore. Or Wilkins. Or Beckner (who won't decide until signing day). Or Briscoe.

I think Cager got the message there's no room at OSU. And in the last week he got the same message from Notre Dame. Georgia insiders have said they don't think he's a take for them. And Alabama's contact with him has fallen off. For whatever reason, Cager has fallen out of favor with a lot of schools, including OSU.

Some recruits that don't have a lot of early hype, but are talented enough to warrant offers from later schools are in a tough spot because the better schools fill up. This seems to be the spot Cager is in. A lot of good schools will gladly take him and I consider tOSU one of those schools but it's not like he has the flexibility that he would have if he was considered a blue chip prospect and/or if he was earlier in the recruiting cycle. Regardless, he will end up at a fine school I suspect. Kid seems to have a lot of potential.

It wouldve been nice to get Cager, but WR is not close to a need. Were pretty stocked, much rather have Dlineman at this point
The problem is that I'm not sure how well off we actually are when it comes to bigger receivers. We are completely loaded (in theory) with the Jalin Marshall types, but not the Michael Thomas types. We could definitely use Cager IMO.

I understand that, but I figured our TEs would pick up the big WR slack. Especially since were getting bigger more athletic TEs. And we also have Noah Brown, and Stump and Alexander coming in next year.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Herman was his main recruiter. That would also help explain the timing of everything.

Herman was not Cager's recruiter. He's a convenient excuse.

Larry Johnson is Cager's area recruiter. Zach Smith is his position recruiter. Zach and Urban met with him and gave him the word that OSU was getting full. That was the exact moment when OSU went from Cager's long time "dream school" to out of his top 5.

No matter how Cager spins it, OSU isn't going to take him in this class. Neither is Notre Dame, which was part of Cager's "top 3" announced just a few weeks ago. Alabama has also dropped their communication with him. I think he ends up at Wake Forest or possibly Va Tech.

I saw a quote of his somewhere where he said that the coaches mentioned that they were getting full and wanted to get a committment soon. He just wasn't ready. He won't decide for another month probably. I wouldn't completely shut the door on him yet, but I'd put the chances of him being in the class a long shot.
