LaTwan Anderson (official thread)

Defensive back transfers to Glenville - Cleveland.com

Tuesday, April 14, 2009
From staff reports

Highly regarded junior defensive back Latwan Anderson will be attending Glenville instead of Ginn Academy.

Anderson, who left St. Edward two weeks ago for undisclosed reasons, was to enroll at Ginn Academy late last week with plans to play football for Glenville. That changed after a transfer rule instituted in 2006 by the Cleveland Metropolitan School District and the Ohio High School Athletic Association came to light.

Ginn Academy is an all-boys alternative school and Glenville is a public school. Both are in the Cleveland public school system but Ginn Academy has no athletics.

If a person transfers to Ginn Academy from a private or parochial school, that person has to sit out a full year from the date of the transfer, said Leonard Jackson, the district's commissioner of athletics.

When Anderson's father, Lou Stephens, began the transferring process, he was unaware of the rule until he talked to Jackson over the weekend. Stephens said he wants his son to play his senior year this fall and hopes he will be in class on Monday.

The other part of the transfer rule with Ginn Academy and the OHSAA, which does not apply to Anderson's situation, mandates that Ginn Academy students play sports for the Cleveland public school closest to their residence.

Anyone think there's a chance we take two safeties in this class and both are from Glenville?

We don't appear to be going after many safeties(assuming we have Joyner pegged for Cornerback) and Bryant appears to have the ability to play S or CB.

I definitely see the possibility. This is the last season for both Coleman and Russell, along with Aaron Gant. This leaves Rocco Pentello, Ohrian Johnson, Zach Domicone, Nate Oliver, and Jamie Wood as the safety options for next season. It would be good to bring in both Bryant and Anderson for depth's sake. If two of the aforementioned five returning step up in a major way next season then Bryant might get work at both safety and corner untill he takes to one position or depth dictates him towards one. In either case Pentello, Johnson, and Domicone were not pure safeties in high school. Therefore bringing in defensive back specialists such as Anderson and Bryant could only be good for the team.

Jer'Male Hines is on the Safety Depth Chart as well. I expect he'll be the starter on the strong side next year.

Dangit I got mixed up in all the names. Yeah he did line up at safety a lot in the spring game.

In either case, to get back to LaTwan, he would definitely be a good addition. Even if he doesn't start for a year or two, with his speed he could wreck havok on the special teams.

As of now the other main candidate for that potential offer would be Chad Hagan. Hopefully both come to camp and the staff can choose which one they like better after seeing them in person.

Has the appearance that OSU can wait and see how things develop with their higher targets at DB and offer Anderson later in the process and still get him if need be. With what happened with McDougald and now Turner, I think it's possible the staff might be a little wary about offering someone that has some issues like Anderson does.

Division I boys meet a repeating case of close, but not quite, for many area stars

Glenville's Latwan Anderson powers through his leg of the 4x200 relay during Saturday's state meet in Columbus. The Tarblooders' team of Anderson, Shane Wynn and twins Marvel and Marcus Brooks took the championship.

COLUMBUS -- With the rich history of track in the Greater Cleveland area, second place at state are rather unusual occurrences -- but that was the theme at the 102nd Boys Division I State Championships at Ohio State University's Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
It started with the team race, where 15-time state champion Glenville finished a close second to Gahanna Lincoln, 48 points to 45. The Tarblooders were in need of the state's best 4x400 relay, which was disqualified at the district two weeks ago.

Glenville won one event Saturday, the 4x200 relay in which sophomore Shane Wynn, junior Latwan Anderson, and senior twins Marvel and Marcus Brooks edged Warren Harding for the title, 1:26.38 to 1:26.98.

Marcus Brooks was a victim in the 300-meter hurdles of a last-second charge at the finish line by Hilliard Darby senior Jordan Rispress, who edged him, 37.36 to 37.79. Likewise, Tarblooders sophomore Quincy Downing appeared to have fourth place in the 800 meter run when he faded and dropped to seventh.

Anderson placed second in the 200-meter dash to Gahanna Lincoln junior Blake Heriot, 21.47 to 21.71.
