The Gift: now I will admit, a combination of Jason Bateman and a mainstream (Universal) release had me going in with low expectations...but what a terrific little thriller this is. Good acting, good directing, good creepiness factor. Also a huge bonus is that, for once, the ending didn't suck...in fact it was good. Solid 4/5

Written and directed by Joel Edgerton (the guy playing opposite of Bateman). I agree, thought it was well done.

Seeking a Friend For The End of The World

Occasionally charming but quite depressing and inexcusably light on humor for such a bleak premise. Keira's character is a good fit for this but they refused to let her add much humor to the joy she brought Carrell.

There's an entire world out there that's about to end, and this movie zooms in on the two least interesting people in it.
Carell possesses a knack for these comedic-tinged dramatic parts, subtly layering on the pathos while slyly exploiting his character's vulnerability.

Furious 7

Woof. This is coming from a household that really enjoyed the series. I loved the original ("sandwich crazy" remains one of my all time favorite lines), enjoyed the second and thought Fast 5 and 6 were pretty fun though fairly outrageous. This one was just so outrageously over the top and absurd with a lot of sappy and forced lines (and not the enjoyably bad ones). I will say The Rock's fairly large hiatus during the movie hurt it quite a bit. His return to the absurdity made it more enjoyable (and brought classic F&F lines) though could not rescue it.

Wife: "It was horrible! I've never seen so many flying cars :shake:"

How this received 81% on RT is beyond me. Some fitting reviews:

While the final salute to Paul is sweet, there's so much here that's tiresome -- not least the fact that almost nothing here involving cars is real.
If you know how to lower your standards you'll have a great time.
I do and could not.
Can you really call a film bad if it achieves exactly what it sets out to achieve?
An insane collection of three huge action scenes with little to no basis in the real world. Entertaining but also incredibly shallow and somewhat silly.

Just an OK Bond movie; however, not quite as bad as some early reviews that I read. I thought it had a lame plot, (i.e. something like The World Is Not Enough, or M/I: Rouge Nation) supposedly good guys (who are really bad) trying to take over the world, etc. It does "close out" the past villains/criminal organization from Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, and Skyfall though. Action sequences are OK; the bond girls leave something to be desired.

Nothing really unique about the "bad henchman guy" (Dave Bautista, a 6-foot-5, 289-pound former professional wrestler (i.e. Batista), portrays Hinx), except that he was hard to kill.

In my opinion, the theme song is the WORST of all of the Bond theme songs:

Daniel Craig clarifies ‘slash my wrists’ comments about future Bond movies

Craig is signed for one more Bond film, maybe they'll have a fresh take (i.e. new story line) for Bond 25.

Going to see this after work... I'm a bond fan boy I'll like anything they put out tbh. Will be refreshing to get (possibly) get a new Bond.

I kind of liked Craig in Casino Royale; however, not as much in the last three. Maybe it was partly due to the story line though. The Bond that I really liked (besides Sean Connery) was Timothy Dalton. Apparently nobody else liked him as he only did the 2 Bond movies (The Living Daylights and Licence to Kill).

Just got home from seeing Spectre, and man, I loved it! It was, in my IMO, the best of the Daniel Craig movies, and I've really enjoyed him as Bond. It was definitely a good closer on his time as 007, if it really is his last gig.

Something to do this afternoon. I guess if you liked Jurassic Park you'll like Jurassic World too. It had a similar plot/story line. Ron Howard's daughter was the female star. She looked nothing like him; she had hair.

The 3D was digitized, nothing came off the screen.

Interesting. Casino Royale was phenomenal and Skyfall was pretty good. The other one didn't happen.

Prophet's Prey: New documentary about Warren Jeffs, and how he still controls the FLDS and its 10,000 members from prison despite serving a life sentence. Shit makes the Duggars look like liberals by comparison. Unsettling and very well crafted. 4/5
