Ironically enough, on a plane on the way to Germany. Decent. No surprises. It was what it said it would be. I thought Pitt was much better than in WW-Z; the last movie of his I saw.

I think I need someone to explain it to me. I thought it was stupid.

I don't think it needed to be explained. You probably "got it", but what there was to get wasn't interesting.

The point of the movie was to highlight Keaton's character's psychotic state while surrounding him with vapid, pretentious "ACK-TORS". The whole movie was satire, making fun of how "THEE-AH-TAAH" is serious business and how "empty, unfulfilled performers" interact with the world and one another. The whole movie felt like a statement that was trying to be made, but could never quite work up the courage to actually be made. That was never more evident than in the final few scenes where the story couldn't commit to an ending so it was not only left vague, but left vague with a cheesy "surreal" overtone.

Visually? It was a spectacular achievement and probably will be emulated frequently in the near future... but my god did it lack any substance.

Still a great fucking movie...

In my opinion, Shawshank is the template to which all other movies are judged. Perfect in every way that matters to me as a moviegoer. 10/10 plot, 10/10 dialogue, excellent acting and memorable cinematography. Very few movies even come close, imo. I'm sure I've pimped flickchart.com before, but there's a reason it's top 5 all time and my #1. If I still had TBS I'd probably catch a few minutes of it every week. It's worth picking up at any moment.

Watching right now. Have no idea how others rate movies, but this is an all-timer, period. The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.

And, I've always wanted to have a conversation about all time music from a movie.

Star Wars is probably first. Then Jaws maybe. The Good The Bad and The Ugly is definitely up there. Indiana Jones. Superman. 2001 Space Odyssey. Musicals have an advantage. Wizard of Oz for example, but I'm thinking more of instrumental music like the Rocky theme. I'd probably recognize the ET theme too if I heard it.

Best/most recognizable instrumental movie theme song? John Williams was probably the composer. Lol.
