Rounders..................still love this movie. The poker scene in the end is great.

Django Unchained..........another I watched again. Violent and wonderful. Quentin at his best.

Killing Them Softly..........ho hum. Brad Pitt was really good, but it was fairly slow at points.

Lords of Dogtown.........Been wanting to watch this for awhile. I think it's from 2002. Pretty interesting story about the emergence of skateboarding in California. Had a young Emile Hersch in it who was solid, but what blew me away was Heath Ledger's performance as Skip Engblom. Still bummed he passed away. He was just on the cusp of being one of the greats.

Guardians of the Galaxy............I didn't know what to expect going in, but was pleasantly surprised. I don't really know anything about this Marvel series, so I'm pretty lost on any type of history with this group. Rocket the Racoon was pretty dam funny though.

Just one question though, Meryl made mention of not taking Starlord to his father like originally planned. Do we know who his father really is? Like in the comics or whatever?

Christopher Nolan just lost his free pass. Not sure what I was expecting from Interstellar, but that wasn't it. Need more Inception less 2001 A Space Odyssey/Contact.
I'm going to sound like a pretentious prick here, but Nolan lost his free pass with me with DKR.

My hesitation to see Interstellar seems warranted. I'll wait until I don't have to pay for it.

That being said, I finally just saw Captain America - The Winter Soldier and was very pleasantly surprised.

It was LIGHTYEARS better than the first one (although most origin story movies are awful) and took a very unexpected tone to it from the get go. It felt more like a Bond movie, or another comparable political thriller than a Marvel superhero flick. Overall a good watch and would suggest it to anyone interested that hasn't already seen it.

playing catch up here.

Captain America: the Winter Soldier. Started off a little bit slow but ended well. definitely better than the first and a quality addition to the cannn despite some natural fatigue about yet another superhero film even in one as good as the Avengers. A predictable story arc but good depth to the characters - for a superhero film anyway - and the usual strong action and effects. Good rental candidate. I doubt I would watch this film more than once per decade.

In the comics, yes. However the writers are going a slightly different direction with the movie.

.

There were things I loved about DKR and things I hated. In stark contrast to Batman Begins and TDK which are two of my all time favorites.

Funny thing Batman is being brought up, the girl I'm seeing had never seen the original two films from Tim Burton. So we watched them last night, being on netflix and such.

I honestly haven't seen either in years, I remember them being favorites as a kid. Holy, shit. First off, I hate Tim Burton and his 'every gothic' viewpoint. Second, aside from the Villains
of which Nicholson was outstanding and Devito good - the rest of the film was terrible. The characters and lines were campy, the presentation, terrible. Again, I realize it was a different
era but compared to BB and TDK, these look like kids B rated movies. Also, Michael Keaton as Batman. *sigh*

Transformers 4: The Quest to make Money in China was by far the worst of all of them. Glad I didn't see it in theaters. Just watched Edge of Tomorrow. Probably the best of the 3 movies I've watched in the past 24 hours.

Currently my free pass list stands at: Marvel, Star Wars, Star Trek, and JJ Abrams. Everything else can wait till I can rent it for 79 cents.

A captivating adventure through whimsical scenes. I am not usually one for artsy visuals but they are so integral and successful in this film.

This is the first film I wish I had seen in 3d instead, which is saying something given my hatred for the format.

As usual, I find rotten tomatoes' synopsis to be terrific, but even the Dozen highlighted clips from other experts were stellar as well.
Rotten tomatoes said:
A 3D aadaptation of a seemingly "unfilmable" book, Ang Lee's Life of Pi achieves the near impossible -- it's an astonishing technical achievement that's also emotionally rewarding.

Just finished watching John Carter of Mars, and it looked damn good on my new TV. Other than that, it was a pretty decent movie. Obviously set itself up at the end for a possible sequel, but the way they pretty much torpedoed it due to internal politics closer to the release date means that is very unlikely to happen. I'll probably end up watching it once or twice a year.
