I'd call him bi-polar as an actor. He makes some really odd choices in roles, and I think that's hurt the perception of him as an actor. But, I think his work in 'Adaptation' and 'Matchstick Men' are two of the finest performances of the last 10-15 years from anybody.
I, personally, think he is a fine actor, one of my favorites actually. Dude takes on a LOT of roles, and seems to be pretty fearless when it comes to those challenges. Adaptation was excellent. Matchstick men, also very good. I also think about Raising Arizona, Peggy Sue got Married, Lord of War. I liked The Weatherman too. Knowing wasn't too bad really, and The Frozen Ground I thoroughly enjoyed, but I also like a ton of John Cusack's work too. I think he might just like his job. There are a couple of roles in there that he mighta shoulda won an academy award for OTHER than Leaving Las Vegas, which he won. I'll gladly take the Ghost Riders, the Con Air's and the National Treasures, The Season of the Witch, The Rock and Face Off for the inevitable gem that he will eventually turn up in, like Moonstruck, Vampires Kiss(not a favorite, but generally well received), City of Angels, Valley Girl, Wild at Heart, Honeymoon in Vegas, etc. Even if you don't like some of those movies, it's still a pretty strong resume.

I only have two issues with Cage:
1. The misguided belief in the 90's that he should be an action star.
2. His tendency to take any roll offered to him regardless of how bad or poor a fit in order to stay ahead of his financial problems.

I think everyone in the 90's thought they should be an action star…

Music was kick ass....haunting and numb.....Pearl Jam and others.

Usually if a movie hasn't made a ton of money it's one I want to see. Occasionally a good movie finds mass appeal but not often. Parking lot was packed but very few in our theatre....couldn't imagine what all those cars were there for....maybe Hobit? I'd see that but the rest of the crap? Not me.
I knew Pearl Jam was in the soundtrack just wondering if it made it into the movie.. Been psyched about this movie since the first trailer came out featuring "Release", then read this interview with the director

The Hobbit: The desolation of Smaug.
Um. The Hobbit should have been 2 movies. I've grown tired of Peter Jackson's untenable argument for stretching this thing in to 3 movies to provide some sort of un-needed background in regards to the Dwarves. I also am offended that he just contrived some sort of stupid romantic vector in the middle of everything that was neither necessary to the story, or even pertinent to his "vision".

I wish I could like this post ten more times.

Man of Steel is available for $10 on Amazon for bluray+dvd.

Reading the reviews, this movie sounds like an action pqcked blockbuster without a soul (or fun).essentially arguing it was empty action without much heart or humor.

Any feedback on this? If true, this sounds like more of a redbox rental

Comically dumb is how I heard it described. Michael Bay-esque.

I enjoyed it for what it was, a reboot of Superman, but in a darker more gritty way, no where near Nolan & Batman, but a decent flick, I'd redbox it first. if its $10 now it will be that or cheaper in the future

Thanks, both of you. I don't mind mindless action, sometimes those are my favorites. It has to be fun, though.

There's actually not a whole lot of action until the final act. Be prepared for an hour and a half of mind numbing back story before you get to the fight scenes (which are admittedly pretty good).

When Superman was young he was bullied by a fat red headed kid, they later became buds and the ginger now manages an IHOP. Riveting stuff. The movie isn't soulless so much as it's boring.

Henry Cavill is a solid choice for Supes, Amy Adams is a weak Lois Lane, Michael Shannon is psychotic & there is far too much Russell Crowe.

Also, Kryptonian technology:

I tend to think those 2 are the same problem.
