The Wolverine

Thought it was pretty good. It had a pretty cool story line, and some good action scenes.
did you like the last Wolverine movie?

I thought the first two were great, third was meh, wolverine origins was poor.

I think the reason I liked this one is that it truly was a comic book on screen. They didn't try to make it appealing to everyone, as I know there will be some who pan this movie as "way to unrealistic". There were camera shots of situations that would mirror the storyboard inside a comic book, which I thought were cool. I don't try to lump these movies together (even though they are all part of the same story, per se) but try to look at each one as a "new comic book" off the shelf (if that makes any sense)

Jack Reacher - I bet this was a pretty good book. It should have been an entertaining plot but instead it dragged. I wasn't emotionally invested so there was little suspense or concern for the dangers facing the main characters. It should have been a cookie cutter tom Cruise movie, action based conspiracy with a few one liners tossed in. Despite his personal craziness I usually enjoy his movies a lot for what they are.

I noticed it was a tom Cruise production. I don't follow movies well enough to know if this was a new thing or a regular occurrence but I thought it was a B/B- movie with C- production.

I didn't have high expectations but it was pretty mediocre. I expect to see it briefly on FX on a Saturday afternoon, then get relegated to even worse time slots.

Lincoln.

Great cast overshadowed by spectacular Lincoln performance. Political, introspective movie with no action and a very slow pace. Do not go see this movie expecting excitement.

Lincoln constantly halts the conversation and movie to tell his little stories. While I think they could have trimmed the frequency of these rabbit trails (and made the movie more compact and accessible) they really captured his character and the juxtaposition of Abe and his character and approach in the midst of such trying times.

Tommy lee Jones was a riot in the political discourses, ridiculing and undressing his would be opponents.

My wife didn't like it quite as much as I and felt the side characters were cast well but felt forced and or underutilized (ie the older son).

The movie was a very good look into Lincoln's dilemma and an inspiring tribute to the nobility and responsibility that politics should have. It was missing something to make it an all time classic. Whether that was more depth, more activity outside of the rooms Lincoln was in or otherwise, I am not certain. It is required viewing to appreciate the moments that changed America forever, just understand what you are about to watch.

The best snapshots I found on rotten tomatoes :
Day-Lewis? voice is thin and reedy, which jibes with historical accounts but subverts our expectations. His attitude makes listeners lean in, and so do we, magnetized by his kindly reserve.?

A remarkable performance by Daniel Day-Lewis is the glue that holds Lincoln together. Without him, this would be a very unremarkable film.

A bit like watching the West Wing played by Amish People. Desperately needed 40 minutes cut out of what is essentially quite a beautifully made movie[\quote]

Agreed. I did like the fight scenes in the street and in the shotgun house bathroom, though.

Over the top, silly & only loosely connected to the fable. It's also a hell of a lot of fun & my favorite of the fairy tale inspired movies that have cropped up over the past few years (Red Riding Hood, Mirror Mirror (ugh), Snow White & The Huntsman, Jack the Giant Slayer).

I have a feeling that Tommy Wirkola is a big Sam Raimi fan.

...and Pihla Viitala has a really nice backside.

I thought that movie looked fucking terrible. Maybe I'll have to give it a shot.

Early in the movie Gretel has her gun to the head of the local sheriff and tells him "Let the woman go, or I'll blow your fucking brains all over these hillbillies." I had an honest to god soda out the nose moment.
