The Hobbit - Haven't read the book, not a Tolkien fan in general. First hour was ridiculously slow. Next ~2 hours were enjoyable, though it seemed like unnecessary filler took up a decent chunk of time. Wouldn't see it again.

Lincoln - Wasn't as slow as I anticipated, but not your movie if you need explosions and shit to hold your attention. Daniel Day-Lewis was Daniel Day-Lewis, James Spader stole every scene he was in. I didn't pay much attention to historical accuracy as I didn't watch it for a history lesson. I'd see it again.

This is 40- Paul Rudd in his usual (now getting tiresome) role. Wasn't terrible, but was probably about 40 minutes longer than it needed to be. Solid moments and laughs and then just completely odd, dull, and infuriating dialogue. Maybe it was just because I'm not 40.

It is what it is. A sometimes funny mind-wasting Rom-Com. 2/5

Just watched Inception for the first time. Visually stunning, but I feel like my brain is going to explode. Yet, I really liked it. Still trying to sort out the ending.

Also watched Lawless.......Tom Hardy is such a badass. I hope he continues cranking out films. He's great. Overall, thought the movie was really good.

Saw another couple this week after the wife went to bed...

The Pact: IFC release that is not a bad little film. Sort of left you with some wide plot holes in spots, but it was refreshing in that the lead chick in the film was an attractive blonde who didn't A) have a crappy, douchenozzle romance bullshit angle that almost every American Horror Film has, and B) Actually did at least some stuff you might expect a person to actually do. Had some nice plot twists and what really set this one apart was the acting, which quite frankly was better than 90% of the horror films (espeically American ones) that you see. So I give it a 3/5, nice little effort that is worth a watch.

The Innkeepers: Well, you either like Ti West or you don't, and this will not dispell either camp. It moves at a...VERY...deliberate pace, and the payoff isn't as much of a payoff as one might like perhaps. But again the acting was good, it features a fun little appearance by Kelly McGillis (in her 60s, no Top Gun shit here), so if you like good acting and don't need jump shots (though there were a few) and slasher action galore, this is one you might like. I liked his 2009 film that I posted on here earlier, if you hated that one you'll hate this one, if you liked that one you will like this one as well. 3/5

Wife and I saw this christmas eve. First thing i said when we walked out was, man they really dragged that movie out. It was definitely 45mins too long. It was funny in the beginning, however towards the end all you wanted was the movie to be over.

Saw this recently as well and also really enjoyed it. Even LaBeouf was decent.

I definitely preferred it to the other Appalachian based bit I saw recently (Costner's Hatfields & MccCoys).

I really liked the fact that the main character and her sister looked like real people instead of Hollywood cookie cutter starlets.

Another one I liked when I saw it. The web page had the right late 90's-early 00's vibe that fits the early goofy paranormal sites.

The Guard - I really enjoyed this movie. A lot of subtle humor, most of it politically incorrect. Cheadle gives a great performance as always, but Brendon Gleeson definitely played the part to a tee.

Open Range - If you like westerns, you'll like this one. Costner and his bland, non-emotional acting style actually fit perfectly for his character in this, so he didn't kill the movie like he has in others. Duval is great as always. Tends to get slow in certain segments, but I enjoyed it overall.

I was expecting a cheesy B action movie but it turned out to be a pretty funny bit of subversive satire.

PS - Fuck you Finland
