The last thing that I remember before falling asleep was Tom Cruise shooting a dart into some dude's neck in the back of a van after the prison break. I just want to add that the reason that I fall asleep during so many movies is because I often dine at a restaurant across the street from the theater and I tend to indulge in my share of spirits. I'd rather pay 10 bucks for a movie and fall asleep than get a DWI.

 Not a bad strategy at all.

Tonight I'll either sleep through We Bought a Zoo (probably wouldn't need any booze to sleep through this), My Week With Marylin or War Horse. I buy my movie tickets from Costco, 2 for $14.99 so I'm at least saving a bit of change.

If you want to watch a good movie, I recommend The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo or The Devil Inside (haven't seen reviews or anything, but it looks pretty good). If you plan on sleeping, go see New Years Eve. You'll be the only one in there... Promise.

I already slept through Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. I briefly woke up and the chick with all the shit in her face gave me nightmares.

'Girl With the Dragon Tattoo'...first hour is reeeeeeaaaaaaalllllly sllllllloooooooooooowwwwwwwww, but if you can get past that, the last 90 minutes are quite good, and Rooney Mara nails that character...7/10 (+1 for the Reznor/Atticus Ross score...those guys can set a mood like no one else).

"Baby Boom"...total chick flick, but not awful. Fun just to laugh at all the 80's stuff in it  We got the 90 years of UA boxed set for Christmas (thanks dad :banger:) and of all 90 movies in it, my wife insisted we start with that one

"Santa Sangre"...Just re-watched the Blu-Ray. Holy Fuck I don't even know what to say about this movie. I mean even amongst weird-assed movies it was weird, but I LOVED it. Jodorowsky really did produce a masterpiece as Roger Ebert said, and the ability to capture the images the way he did was unbelieveable. 5 stars from me.

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy

I had high hopes for this movie, extremely high, given the excellent British cast and the iconic BBC miniseries that preceded it, and because the book is a personal favorite and the true holy-of-holies in serious spy fiction. And it did not disappoint at all.

The film it feels most like is Coppola's "The Conversation", with a really dark and grainy 70s feel and lots of long-distance film work, and bits of recorded audio looping over and over in the background. It's impressive how well Tomas Alfredson compressed the same material for an 8-hour miniseries into a 2-hour movie, but he's very true to the source material (John Le Carre was involved in the production and appears briefly as an extra).

The casting is terrific (with the slight exception of small Stephen Graham as Jerry Westerby who was written as a big man). Obviously Gary Oldman is great, he always is, and his quiet Smiley has a little more internal fire than Alec Guiness did. John Hurt is good as Control, and I really enjoyed Benedict Cumberbatch as Smiley's protege Peter Guillam. It's a testament to how beloved this story is that so many major British actors took on fairly minor roles.

Oldman is on record that they will likely follow up with "Smiley's People" down the line, really hope that's true.

The Next 3 Days.

It was ok. Kind of slow in parts, and it seemed to be lacking a couple of scenes that would have explained things better, IMO.

Overall it was entertaining, but definitely not a must see.

Killer Elite. You put Clive Owen in a movie, and I'll watch it. This was pretty good. Typical Statham movie with plenty of action, but an interesting plot at least. "Inspired" by a true story.

:shake:

Statham is too one dimensional... Same role recycled over and over and over and over and over again.

Hence the "typical Statham movie."

Yeah, his presence in movies just kills it for me. All interest, gone. I completely expected DeNiro to play a more significant role. Granted, he had the 3rd most major part, but I figured with a movie like this, his "you talkin' to me" mantra fit perfectly with the story line IMO.
