Ditto. It really was a sweet film. I loved just about all the characters...his wife was awesome and his buddies/assistant coaches (Jeffrey Tambor & Bobby Cannavale) were great.

"He placed second at 119 as a sophmore in Ohio"

"Ohio's tough!"

Damn straight!

BTW the kid playing Kyle really was the NJ 119 lb champ as a Soph. He beat the defending 112lb champ in the semi's & destroyed the kid he faced in the finals 15-5 (who placed 3rd at 112 the previous year).

Edit:

Found a story on Shaffer's state title run.

Makes the movie that much better. And to think, the movie didn't do particularly well. Then again, the mainstream public loves their A-list actors. Fuck em, I say.

It's always fun because I build the movies every week at a local theater (perfect job for taking some college classes), and we always watch one of the movies after they are built. If there's a few movies I don't know of, I look them up on Rotten Tomatoes for their reviews. They are usually pretty spot on, although they are overly critical on comedies and action movies.

I've migrated pretty heavily to the indy film side of things these days. It just gives writers/directors/actors so much more freedom to take risks and do what they want rather than being forced to follow the 'rules' imposed by Hollywood producers.

OK what does 'building' a movie entail in today's world of digital projectors?

It entails that we can't afford the 6-figure price for each of the 12 new projectors needed to upgrade. Yes, film movies STILL exist, believe it or not.

Well I still am not familiar with the term. I'm assuming it means preparing the film for projection but what what exactly does that consist of?

Well when we get a movie, it comes on 5-7 smaller reels. We combine those reels into a bigger reel which eventually ends up on something like this:

I wanted to take my mind off things and decided I needed a movie with explosions. I tried to watch Transformers 3, but couldn't make it through. My god that movie was awful.

The movie was embarrassingly bad.

The human race...on the verge of enslavement...is saved by a group of six, maybe seven soldiers!!!!! In the city of Chicago, I mean Milwaukee, I mean Washington D.C., I mean back to Chicago these brave warriors somehow maneuver their way past the Decepticons into the heart of the city! THEN!!!!...they get backup from the Marines who are transported into the city on V-22 Ospreys (without much resistance), yet moments before several F-22 Raptors were effortlessly shot down and destroyed.

Did I mention Cybertron magically coming to Earth without any effects on gravitational pull? What about buildings falling over and landing gently on their side? If two airplanes could topple the twin towers, surely a massive snake-like robot with tentacles burrowing itself in and out of the structure would make a skyscraper crumble...no? Michael Bay must have consulted Rashard Mendenhall.

Can't forget the effort to tie in Chornobyl, which in my most humbly IMO, was tasteless.

Thanks for the eye candy though...was anybody else trying to figure the odds on whether or not the girl's lips were going to burst at any given second?

I didn't even mention the holes in the story and the disconnect with the first two films. For example, wasn't Megatron trying to find the cube thing and Earth's magnetic field threw off his trajectory...back in the 18th Century, yet Megatron was somehow rendezvousing with Sentinal Prime in the mid 20th century for an entirely different technology that ultimately would make the cube useless and worthless if the evil plan would've come to fruition.

In the eloquent words of some of our more revered BP posters...this movie was at best a "giraffe abortion", possibly an "elephant abortion", but more along the lines of "hyena turds after the elephant abortion meal."

F MINUS!!!

Just finished watching Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Personally, it might be my favorite of the four Pirates.

Was going to watch Avatar as well, but looks like I need to re-encode it to play nice with my tv. :pissed:

Oh, also looking forward to the JP trilogy coming out on BluRay next week, almost entirely for the first one. Don't care about the Lost World, and will be tempted to burn 3 after I watch it just to watch it.
