Let me preface this by saying the girlfriend won 4 free tickets by answering some random trivia question on the radio. And we took my niece and nephew to see it.

I saw Kung Fu Panda 2 yesterday. I hadn't seen the first one so I wasn't sure what to expect. It actually wasn't bad at all. If you have kids, I would recommend it.

Nothing special. The 3D effects were just average. Some of the best 3D was during the credits, it looked like some Hubble telescope "space video shots". There seems to be a glut of movies with Marvel Comic characters. In addition to this one, they had previews of 2 more (Captain America and X-Men First Class).

Marvel is in the process of bringing all of their properties in house so they have more creative control (and since the value of comic movies has skyrocketed).

The Iron Man, Thor, Captain America etc movies are all being put together because the master plan is to pull them all together for an Avengers movie in a couple of years.

The concept is great. I've been a big fan of the idea. The problem is that the bar was set SO high by the first Iron Man movie that they haven't come close to matching it with any of the subsequent installments into the "Avengers" universe. The Incredible Hulk was pretty good, but Iron Man 2 was passable, Thor was poorly done although a good movie overall and I can't imagine Captain America will be any better. It seems like the lead-up to the idea has been extremely drawn out.

BUT. There is nobody in the world I would rather have at the helm of the Avengers move than Joss Whedon, so I know that with him writing and directing when the movie eventually does land it should be pretty damn solid.

Like The Black Dahlia... what the fuck was that about?

I can count how many worse movies I've seen on one hand. Maybe only two.. 2012 and Tremors 4. Then I think I'd put The Black Dahlia there. It was that bad.

And yeah, there is a Tremors 4. And I watched it.

1. I haven't seen 2012, but The Happening is certainly right up there with the worst I've ever seen.

2. As a kid, I loved the first Tremors movie, so I purchased the 4 movie box set a few years back. That was a poor decision.

I enjoyed it mainly because it was one of the least bastardizing films of canon Marvel has ever done. [\nerd]

It's been so long since I read any comics (and they've all been re-imagined so many times as well) that it's hard for me to nit pick beyond the absolute basics.

Tony Stark is a massive narcissist with substance abuse problems ... check.

Peter Parker is a whiney teen who's trying to assuage his guilt over his uncle's murder ... check.

Logan has serious issues with authority & is a loner ... check.

Hulk has giant mutated green poodles ... wait, wtf?!

Let me, for a moment put on the customary ponytail that goes with being the comic book guy.

Alright.

So far so good. You're right that RDJr is the reason Iron Man shines.

If we're talking about the first movie, I'm on board. After that both my sensibility as a moviegoer and as a comic book nerd are grossly insulted.

Nothing about "Origins" was even close to TRYING to fit in with ANY canon, whether it be Ultimate or original Marvel or any of the varying X-Men amalgamations. From the introduction to his family, to the complete bastardization of the Victor Creed/Sabretooth storyline (don't even get me started on the bullshit that was Deadpool) that whole movie was a horse abortion.

The three X-Men films, while less loose with the story were still so contradictory and convoluted that nobody who knows anything about the characters outside of cinema could watch without facepalming half a dozen times.

That movie doesn't exist, please don't ever speak of it again.

I just had to get that out of my system.

Black Dahlia was fucking horrible, I mean really fucking horrible, I agree. I never saw these 2 movies of which you speak, but it would take me some effort to come up with movies I have seen that are worse than that one.
