'Shutter Island'...Scorsese channels M Night Shamalamadingdong right down to the transparent twist. Not at all what I was expecting and a major disappointment. At least three people were snoring in our vicinity if that tells you anything. For the record, I'm a huge Scorsese fan and really wanted to like this...
Agree 100%. I kept waiting for the real twist.

Saw Shutter Island last night...it was okay but not as good as I was hoping for. Certainly could have been a lot creepier and things seemed to work out a little too perfect (which in the end I guess was part of the whole point...if you've seen the movie you know what I mean).

The Hurt Locker. It was good at showing the emotion of war, but some things just didn't make sense. And the dude was an asshole; by the end I didn't care if he blew up or not. With all the Oscar hype, I certainly thought it would be better.
Saw this last night. Not sure what didn't make sense to you; everything hung together just fine from my perspective.

Also, I didn't think the protagonist was an asshole. He was a man supremely confident in his abilities who also had serious authority issues. (Oh, wait, that sounds like me ...)

One thing that didn't make sense to me was that scene towards the end (in the Green Zone). The explosion happens and then James just starts running in the dark streets. It just seemed a little bogus to me. But whatever, it's a movie. I think the whole diffuse a bomb and then chase people then repeat got a bit old. It's not like I hated the movie; I just don't understand the Oscar hype.

Last night we watched Vicky Christina Barcelona. Great Woody Allen movie. And the guys might want to know that Scarlett Johanssen and Penelope Cruz kiss in it. :)

Good Lord, did I hate that movie, Cruz and Scarlett's tongue-wrestling notwithstanding. You and I will not be dating anytime soon.

What a huge surprise that is, huh? :tongue2:

Rachel Getting Married - had some good moments, but mostly just bleh. Unnecessarily odd in a lot of stretches.

Finally saw Avatar in 3D.

Truly stunning movie. The ground-breaking visuals are well established at this point, but the alternate world Cameron created was truly special.

Until the technology improves, I still don't want to watch 3D all of the time (sitcoms, comedy, etc) at home, but they succeeded in their goal. I'm now compelled to watch more movies in the theater in 3D rather than waiting for most to come out on bluray.
