Just saw A Serious Man. Definitely a Coen brothers movie. The characters have their quirks magnified. At times it can be difficult to watch, and is certainly a personal movie for the brothers. Not a whole lot of mainstream appeal, but there are definitely some funny moments thrown into a rather bleak story.

In the end I liked it, but I could see many people hating this film. It's tough to empathize with any of the characters, and that makes it tough to enjoy. Many of the characters are despicable, and even the main character is rather boring. Of course that is part of the whole point of the movie (I won't go into it since that would reveal some spoilers).

It's worth seeing, but don't go in thinking it's the next Big Lebowski. It is heavy in Jewish culture, and like I stated the characters are difficult to like. Expect a dark comedy, over the top characters, and some underlying bleak messages about life. If that doesn't interest you then you will not like this movie.

Movie Night

Just had movie night with another family and all the kids. Watched "What About Bob?"

I forgot how hilarious Bill Murray and Richard Dreyfus were. My son (6) was up this morning and he came down the hall for breakfast and was doing 'baby steps".

'Shutter Island'...Scorsese channels M Night Shamalamadingdong right down to the transparent twist. Not at all what I was expecting and a major disappointment. At least three people were snoring in our vicinity if that tells you anything. For the record, I'm a huge Scorsese fan and really wanted to like this...
