You win nevermind...

What fun is that? :(

I have seen others try to do shows/movies and they have shown Holmes as a pencil neck dweeb that couldn't do anything outside of out think someone. But felt the adaptation done by Ritchie shows Holmes as the controlled substance abusing, quick witted, tough, hard nose, stubborn man that "I" pictured him to be.

I'm absolutely cool with that (and mostly agree)...it's just that it's a slightly different issue of the movie being a remake.

Kids were bugging the living hell out of me while typing that and wasn't wanting to spout out a bad post...

If I would have typed adaptation in the first post instead of remake then this conversation would be non-existent.

I think over the course of the week so far I've watched Alien, Aliens, Alien Resurrection (all have been on AMC late at night) and The Dark Knight. All are pretty awesome except for Alien Resurrection... which is average at best.

The shows they did off the books were poorly done... Made Sherlock look like a puss... the Movie went back off the books much better. They did a good job.

I disagree, assuming you are referring to the series I'm thinking of. The Jeremy Brett (80's and 90's television series and a couple made-for-tv movies) made him sickly-looking, but far from a pussy. He'd smack the shit out of someone with a cane if he needed to. I always envisioned Holmes as rather gaunt and ragged, not a brawler like the previews for the movie make him look like.

That being said, I haven't read all or nearly all of the stories, whereas my wife has....and she absolutely swears by the Jeremy Brett version.

I bought her the complete collection of the Brett versions this Christmas, so we've been watching a lot of them lately.

Star Trek: TNG holodeck silliness?

We were just talking about that last night. Gotta make sure your semantics are right when asking the computer to create a puzzle for you.

I think Brent Spiner would have made a decent Holmes.

When they showed him with his shirt off in the film, he was fairly weak looking but a tough as hell stubborn bastard.

Talk about a movie that makes you want to hate people. Sheesh.
