Saw a few shows recently...

Took the wife and kids to see Green Day at Blossom earlier this summer. Hadn't seen them since Dookie tour back around '04. The kids are probably bigger fans of GD than I am at this point, and definitely knew more of the lyrics. Was the first real concert for the 3 of them (17, 15, and 13) and not sure we could have picked a better show. The guys are true pros and entertained for a heavy 2.5 hours.

Also went to see the Outlaw Music fest at Blossom with a few country bands I didn't know, Cheryl Crow (sucked), Avett Bros, and Willie Nelson. Only purpose for me was to catch the Avett Bros who I try to never miss when they're in town. I've never seen Willie, and, well, he wasn't great; but dude is well past his time and still manages to get out there and perform something.

Followed that up seeing Roger Waters at the Q. He put on another premium show with a fantastic set list. The production was so impressive and the sound was phenomenal. Supposedly his final tour so if you get the chance, I'd highly recommend seeing it.

Ian Anderson as Jethro Tull. It was pretty amazing between them playing for 3 hours snd the video that went with it. Much of it was the band singing the songs from earlier days. Some of it was actually performers doing parts of the songs with them. It was amazing choreography. Ian can still get at it for being 71. Voice is obviously a little rough but still an outstanding show.

Double nickle and still rockin....:banger:

Last night in Newport. Chris Hillman (founding member of Byrds, Flying Burrito Brothers, Desert Rose Band), Herb Pederson (Desert Rose Band, Earl Scruggs, Dillards, Country Gazette, New Kentucky Colonels), and John Jorgenson (Desert Rose Band, Elton John, Michael Nesmith). Petty produced the cd they just released. Unbelievable amount of talent with those 3.

Frank Turner is coming to Cbus in June. Tickets go on sale tomorrow. I already have mine. Why don't you have yours yet? In case you don't know him, give this a view. Just don't turn the sound up too loud, or be sure to turn it back down around 1:20.

Last night I got out to see Deer Tick at the Beachland Ballroom in Cleveland. I only just started listening to these guys a few months back so wasn't real familiar with their catalog but there were a few really strong tunes stuck in my rotation. So glad I went to see them perform. Ran two sets of about an hour each; first being acoustic and the second electric which follows the format of their latest dual-album release. They put out so much energy during the acoustic pieces I would have been content to hear them stick with it. But, they managed to kick it up with some power and just kept things rising throughout. It was one of those time where I couldn't find anyone to go along with me so I almost blew it off, but no regrets at all.

Sadly, the acoustic tragedy that is the Aragon Ballroom... but there’s Riot Fest coming up.

Anyone in Chicago going? Anyone not in Chicago coming in? The lineup is outstanding.

Likely going to do Friday and Sunday. Wheaton BYOB (Brew your own Beer) Fest is happening at my house on Saturday.
