I hate to be the one who inserts another possible, logical reading of what he said that differs from how everyone else has taken it, but...

I honestly read it as him saying that if he were anyone else he wouldn't vote the team #1, or that if he knew about the team what he knows as the coach but as an outsider, he wouldn't vote them #1. Not that he literally would not vote his own team #1, but that if he were...Urban, he wouldn't vote USC #1 knowing what he knows.

Just how I read it, obviously everyone else read it differently.

Yes
Not his wife, who is vastly overrated.

You may find yourself living in a shotgun shack
And you may find yourself in another part of the world
And you may find yourself behind the wheel of a large automobile
You may find yourself in a beautiful house, with a beautiful wife
You may ask yourself, "Well, how did I get here?"

USC opens 'huge' recruiting advantage

m94z2i-b78995680z.120120821195917000gua19sqvu.1.jpg

Eighteen months after groundbreaking, the new 110,000 square-foot John McKay Center at USC was officially dedicated on Tuesday. It was completed ahead of schedule, and under budget.

A recruiting edge -- just what USC needed, right? USC dedicated the John McKay Center on Tuesday, but its positive impact already has been felt on the recruiting trail. While the $70 million, 110,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art athletic facility was under construction, football coach Lane Kiffin would show recruits videos of what the building would look like. Now they can walk through it. It's hard to come away unimpressed. "It's a huge advantage," said Kiffin, who has the No. 1 class for 2013, according to Rivals.com. "We were way behind our conference and (the) country. I think we not only caught up, but we probably passed everybody." ... The building's centerpiece is a 33-by-15-foot video wall in the main atrium.

some snazzy new digs, but I don't think as impressive as what they did with the WHAC during renovation

Preseason #1. It will be very interesting to see how far they can go with a talented starting lineup backed by a lot of freshman. They will have to be very injury lucky to end up playing for a BCS Championship. And if they don't do it this year there will be a drop off next with fewer scholarships.

USC athletics: Figure in corruption scandal says he gave gifts to USC athletes - Los Angeles Times

A key figure in the ongoing corruption scandal at the Los Angeles County assessor's office said he gave cash and perks worth thousands of dollars to two USC athletes while they were still in school, actions that could violate college sports rules.

The allegations are contained among hundreds of Scott Schenter's county work emails that suggest the former appraiser provided football star Joe McKnight with a car and an airline ticket, and basketball player Davon Jefferson with about $3,700 in cash. The Times obtained the emails from the assessor's office under the California Public Records Act.

McKnight then wrecked the vehicle.

Not sure what more the NCAA could do to them because these violations were pre-sanctions. Plus, you know USC will obstruct the [Mark May] out of the investigation, making it last 5 years.

So yeah, nothing to see here.

I actually have a little faith that Pat Haden is committed to doing the right thing. One thing that can be said of the USC board and power alumni is that they did flush the place out (ousted the Prez too) in the wake of the last scandal. The message board fans and run of the mill Spoiled Children (think James Spader in Pretty in Pink) alums might think they were unjustly railroaded by the ncaa, but the admin seems to be pretty clear eyed about what was going on in the athletic department.
