Lamarcus Joyner (DB New York Jets)

Lamarcus Joyner right at home at St. Thomas Aquinas - ESPN

UA All-American DB joins defending national champs' already talented secondary

While his swagger, versatility and talent automatically make him stand out, Under Armour All-American Lamarcus Joyner (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) has done a remarkable job of blending in with his talented new teammates.

Joyner transferred to the Broward County private school earlier this year after playing last season at Miami Southwest. The Raiders were named the nation's best football team last year by ESPN RISE and USA Today after going 15-0. So when spring drills began -- Florida allows teams 20 practices, including 17 with pads on -- the practices were more intense and the talent level was higher, and it took Joyner some time to adjust.

"We practice here at a college pace," Joyner said. "That's what I needed to do anyway. That's why this was the right choice for me."

Still, it didn't take long for his new teammates, many of whom are high-level Division I prospects themselves, to see that Joyner would fit right in.

"He's getting used to it real quick," running back Giovanni Bernard said. "We really do practice hard. We don't just sit around and say 'We are going to do this and this on game day.' We get out there and practice hard."

2010 Under Armour All-America Game loaded at defensive back - ESPN

CB Lamarcus Joyner, 5-9, 170, Fort Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas

Tucker on Joyner: He may have some of the best pure play speed in this cornerback class. He displays great range and recovery burst. Explosive, physical and very balanced versus the run and pass. He rarely covers grass and seems to constantly be around the football making the big play. Joyner is a great competitor who plays the game fast and physical on every snap.

Recruiting buzz: Florida State and Ohio State lead the rest of the pack.

Nice interview on Scout $$ a few days ago...they let board members submit questions..and some of them can be really goofy..buy Joyner had some tremendous responses.

The more I hear/see from this kid...the more I really hope we get to see him in S&G.

Yeah, and they were some of the most pointless questions ever.

St. Thomas Aquinas' Joyner a multi-tool player
Nick Schmit | South Florida Sun-Sentinel
May 28, 2009

For Lamarcus Joyner, the pressures of being a top recruit and playing for a national powerhouse in St. Thomas Aquinas don't affect his play on the field.

"I just like to have fun and let that stuff play itself out, and so it's pretty much no pressure," Joyner said.

The junior defensive back who ranks 2nd overall in Rivals.com cornerback ratings transferred to St. Thomas this year after playing three seasons at 112 tackles, four sacks an interception. Joyner's speed has also been utilized on offense and special teams, with 17 catches and 7 touchdowns as receiver and five kick returns for touchdowns.

Numerous colleges have offered Joyner scholarships, and he lists his interested schools as Ohio State, Florida, Florida State, Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia. Joyner has also gotten offers from USC and Miami.

Joyner displays tremendous speed, which allows him to run step for step with receivers and run down players from behind to make a tackle. At only 5-8, Joyner falls short of the ideal height for a cornerback, but feels that it doesn't hurt him.

"I got everything a corner needs, plus more," Joyner said.

For St. Thomas, Joyner lines up mainly as a safety, although he will get a few snaps at corner. He plans on playing corner at the college level. While at corner, Joyner looks to enjoy making knock out hits.

"There is nothing better in the world, no better feeling than that," Joyner said.

I know this has been said before, but as much as I love LJ as a player he's seems like an even better person. LJ will be an impact player on and off the field. I will cheer for him where ever he goes. But on a side note, is it me or is no one outside of Ohio gives us a shot to land him? Even though we been there for the jump.

And it will be HUGE for all involved!

you sound borderline hurricane fan, I know that genron doesn't appreciate overly confident fans who don't listen to the things he has to say, Joyner is not a lock anywhere right now so take it down a notch and just let the process play out, everyone hopes that he will be the next Buckeye legend, but we will just have to wait and see

Many people think that we won't get him when Florida State has been a favorite team of his for a while and it's not that far apart. However, we have a lot of things going for us with Lamarcus. He has already unofficialed, he will unofficial again most likely when he comes up here to slaughter Upper Arlington, and then take an official visit. Also, when it comes to putting defensive backs into the NFL, we are on a different level.
Pretty much, why people would doubt our chances of landing Lamarcus at this point is beyond me. We have done pretty well recently in Florida, and I'm not sure there has been a guy to unofficial visit here twice, take an official visit, and not become a Buckeye.
This is Ohio State, we are DB U, if Lamarcus doesn't want to be a part of what we offer then all we can do is wish him the best...that is unless he chooses tsun. :scum4:
