Lamarcus Joyner (DB New York Jets)

LJ is clearly the number 1 target for the 10' class and its not even close. He is probably the best player in the nation and clearly a bigger game changer than any OLineman will be for us. We are loaded for the future on the OLine, we got 5 great prospects this year, 3 great ones last year, and maybe the best in the nation already for next year. We have nobody that is proven in place for the future at CB, we are clearly VERY thin at DB and its our biggest 'need'. We will go after LJ with everything we got, our staff im sure doesn't have any fear of signing day commits like some of you scary cats. I am very confident that LJ is a prototypical "Tressel kid" and that this will be fully realized with someone as knowledgable and on point as Genron looking after him. CB U is waiting for you LJ!

Guys, Genron has provided some excellent insight for BP...however, please keep the conversation general. Everyone here is passionate about tOSU but that passion cannot overwhelm our common sense. Any promotion or attempts to "steer" LJ will be deleted.

Leave the recruiting to the coaches.

Thanks.

Article on Miami recruiting but mentions Miami's 2010 recruiting targets from Broward, Dade and Palm Beach counties at the end of the article, you will note LJ mentioned.

Eye on the U | Hurtt recaps '09 recruiting, sets 2010 goals
In Dade, Miami has high interest or offers already out for: CB Lamarcus Joyner (Columbus), WR Michael Lee Harris (Northwestern), RB Eduardo Clements (Booker T. Washington), K Oscar Diaz (Booker T. Washington), DL Corey Lemonier (Hialeah), DL Calvin Smith (Hialeah), OL Torrian Wilson (Northwestern), RB Jakhari Gore (Columbus) and QB Jeffrey Godfrey (Miami Central).

Genron,

- Why did Joyner transfer from SW Miami to Columbus? Private over Public school?

- Will he attend any more camps? Camps in Miami? (I'm from Mia)

Thanks

Well SW was not handling his course load correct. He's behind one class as of right now. Its no problem to correct but we cant have that at this time. It's all about getting in his books and learning now. I think private schools private a better education for him right. Especially preparing for the ACT/SAT tests. Public schools down here only focuses on FCAT content and it hurt the kids b/c it doesnt relate education wise. He passed the FCAT already and now he needs to get to that next level academically. Now we have the opportunity to do so and everyone thinks its the best fit. He doesn't have to play another down b/c its all about academics now. Whether it's at Columbus or esle where. And the religious aspect is huge as well.

About the camps: The Nike camp is probably the only one. This 7 on 7 team is pretty good already and finally he's seen as a major prospect. Something I've been selling that for 2 years :) .

Well, since he's already made the move to Columbus once...

Seriously though, I just want to say that wherever LaMarcus winds up I'll root for him... And I find it refreshing that a kid has great people in his corner that are trying to help him make the best decision... There's a lot of predatory people out there and it's always good to have people to keep you grounded...

I think LJ made an excellent choice in Columbus. They have had some outstanding football players come out of that high school over the years and the kids come out with an excellent education.

genron187 couldn't have said it better about the public school system here. The teachers in the public schools are excellent, but they are hamstrung by having to devote time to helping kids pass the FCAT test, something that wasn't the case a long time ago in the county or state. That dumbs down teaching to a level that shouldn't be. Add into the fact that right now the teachers in Dade County where Miami is are fighting it out with the school board over pay raises, keeping their level of pay, etc. Who wants to deal with that.

By going to Columbus, LJ will be able to focus on academics a lot easier and play for an outstanding football team against some tougher competition.

If he comes to the spring game he will see the best facilities anywhere. He will see the pictures of all our pro players hanging up in the Woody (a TON of db's and receivers) and may even run into some of them. I like our chances if we can get a kid up here to see what we have to offer. Not to mention 60 to 70 k showing up for a practice game. Dont wear socks, we will knock them off.
