Lamarcus Joyner (DB New York Jets)

Kidding aside, the combination of an outstanding education at a prestigious university while playing for one of the outstanding coaches and experiencing one of the most exiting game day atmospheres in all of college football would make tOSU very high on anyone's list.

Agree.

People make too big of a deal out of the weather. I know (think) you were only kidding. :tongue2:

Finished it and the dissertation a long time ago.

As numbers said, above, there are lots of items that factor into a decision on where to attend college. As long as Lamarcus takes his time, researches thoroughly, and has a good support system, he'll make a good choice-- no matter what it is. He seem off to a good start.

That's exactly what Jaamal Berry did and he is coming to the big O.

Rivals $

2/10

From O&B News...says he will likely wait to decide and will most likely let his heart decide...says he sees the opportunity for early playing time at Illinois.

Rivals $

2/10

From VolQuest.com...talks about the skills camp and about receiving an offer from Tennessee...says his uncle is like a father to him and they will map out some visits in the coming months which will include Illinois and Ohio State.

It seems silly to post updates here when we get the info first hand, but I digress...

I like Joyner's style. He seems very sure of his skills, but not cocky at all. You can tell he respects his teammates, other players, and the game.

I would LOVE to see Lamarcus in the S&G, and think Ohio State has a VERY real shot.

Put it like this, if LJ chooses before signing day, I like our chances much better. As is well documented in this thread, JT just never usually lands big OOS talent on signing day. Some coaches are aggressive and trash OSU more the closer it gets to signing day and most of the time, it works (southern coaches especially). JT will never say anything negative about another school and sometimes I think it just makes it easier for a kid to say no to us than the more aggressive coaches. Just my theory. Plus it's not easy getting top 10 type guys out of their home state, generally speaking. Also, we just don't do well on signing day, so people aren't doubting LJ's interest (it's obviously legit at this point), but we as OSU fans just don't get our hopes up the longer it goes with an OOS guy, especially when the OOS recruit is going to be recruited as heavily as LJ is. Trust me, true OSU fans want to have LJ here bad.
I think it's a point in OSU's favor that LJ doesn't seem to be intimidated by anything...and I doubt a blowhard college coach will break the trend.

I also agree with what you said earlier about LJ being the #1 target for this class. The last person I saw run away from defenders like he did in his highlight tape was Ted Ginn, and LJ has more "shake" when he has the ball. I really hope to see him in S&G!

It sounds like I'm alone here but I can't quite put him higher on my list than Henderson. He's a solid #2 for me so far though.

Our coaches will go after anyone, anywhere, anytime. And they will take on any program that opposes them.

The fans may be sheepish on parts of the internet, but that is the nature of a fanbase as large as Ohio States. We have the largest fanbase in the nation.

And if you want someone to come out and say it then I certainly will; I think LJ will be a Buckeye. I think it's everything he is looking for in a school. I think it's the best fit for any top player in the nation. He will compete against the best players in the nation in practice every day, and he will play for the best coaches in the business. He will grow as a player and a person.

So, if it's confidence you are looking for, some of us certainly have it.

Thats what im talking about, thats actually the attitude i want to see expressed with fire. Let us know OSU is not going to back down to UM/UF/FSU or even back door and negative recruitment. I dont want to see nice, I want to see a staff thats determined. If they are like that in recruitment then I know they are like that as coaches. Be a go getter. Your Thee Ohio State....Thee Ohio State. Fans, you all landed Pryor, McGee should have went there but he didnt make the decision for himself, Howard/Sabino/Berry and you all are doubting. It's Ohio State. Just like Da U/SC/Texas/Sooners. I gave coach Haynes 3 more players to recruit down here. Dont be surpised if 3 sign next yr.

By the way, spoke with Tressel for the 1st time last time. When he answered the phone I said can I speak to the old ball coach (in a very southern country voice). And he said, "Well, I''m very old and Im a ball coach. I guess you're referring to me." He was way cool. We laughed it off.

Hey Genron, don't forget to tell Lamarcus how fun it will be to say "THE Ohio State University" when he's doing his player intro on Monday Night Football.

Great minds think alike.... :wink2:

I am guessing that no one is saying "stay away" lol  Especially since it is obvious LJ is such a special talent, and such a good kid.

JT and staff take recruiting very seriously...and when I say that, I mean the kids they recruit are not only great athletes, but they have to be willing students and great people. It is a philosophy that they hold in high regard.... "You win with people"...going back to Woody Hayes.

For a short time, that philosophy was falling into the background and Jim Tressel and his coaches have made it a priority to run the program by those standards.

Some fans fail to realize that Jim Tressel sells that in recruiting. He does the obvious as well....... He sells the facilities. He sells the competition. He sells the fact that kids make it to the NFL. He sells the tradition. But what he doesn't do is tell kids what they want to hear. He wants them to get it....to get the fact that they are not simply choosing a school to play football and take some classes...they are choosing to become part of something special....a family.

Being 18, being out of state and not being born into the OSU atmosphere makes it hard for a lot of OOS talent to understand exactly what it is that JT is selling....

Some don't understand and still choose OSU...but they soon get it when they arrive on campus. It ranges from saying "THEE Ohio State University" during Monday night football, to singing Carmen Ohio to the fans, all the way to finding success after football is over.

So, yeah, I think that is why JT and staff don't do the greatest at "closing" on signing day with OOS recruits. But they stick to what has worked...and that is getting kids that really want to be Buckeyes...kids that truly get what JT and his staff are selling.

It seems to be working pretty well.

There isn't a team on Lamarcus' list that Ohio State can't compete with as far as prestige, competitiveness (on the field and academically) and facilities (again, academic as well as athletic).

As far as coaching staffs, well, I might be biased but if it comes down to that it's not even close.

Miami, FSU and UF often rely on the fact that because they are the big 3, they somehow think there is an advantage in-state, but it's been burning them on a lot of fine in-state recruits who have gone elsewhere and the recent round of Florida recruits to the Buckeyes is an excellent example. Every year I hear Miami fans (and I know it goes on with FSU and UF in their neck of the woods further north) say how did we let so-and-so get away, why did he go out-of-state. I tell you the young men down here assume absolutely nothing and they check their facts and look at the schools very carefully, regardless of the hype (negative or positive) of local fans or anyone else. The Buckeyes have done one of the best jobs in the country at getting out-of-state recruits to come to Columbus. There's magic there for sure and JT has some solid values as a coach and a gentleman.

I have only seen rare occasions like the Northwestern-Booker T. Washington kids of last year who really had their heart set on Miami from the day they were playing park ball and I knew other kids like that growing up, but most kids don't know precisely where they want to play.
