Lady Bucks Basketball Thread

Things might get ugly for Tangy now that her sis left the way she did. She will be further away from her husband now that she is in the WNBA with Conn and in Kansas full time. Interesting to say the least. Foster can be brutal when he chooses... and Tangy might be one on the receiving end.

Ohio is down this year in talent... he has to go outside the state as the team still will be able to compete in the Big Ten but be awful outside of the league. He is not competing with the big dogs in recruiting... so we are stuck until he retires.

The team won't run any more this year than in the past... he values the shot clock and his post getting most of the attention. That is the way he has coached his entire career and Prahalis won't change things. Besides... where is he going to play his 3 point guards on the team? Who splits the minutes?

Good first post. I know that you know women's basketball and high school recruiting. Stick around BP and keep us up to date on Foster's recruiting. I am in agreement with you when it comes to Foster but crazybuckfan40 will disagree with you but don't worry I will cover your back.

Just curious where you are getting the top info from...Different from anything I have heard...

He already has 2 top girls, 1 ranked in the top 25, and another player on her AAU team looking here that has looks from all the big schools, and we are up there in her favorites...

The coaches have said we will run, and he told Prahalis that we will run...Lets wait till next year to really make judgement...

When Foster was hired, he said he couldn't wait to get athletes that he couldn't get at Vandy. Funny... back then he said he would run a different offense and run more than at Vandy. Well... he has had a variety of teams and every single team has been molded to his way. Get the ball to the post... value the shot clock... only one or two players will have the green light or there will be hell to pay if you take a bad shot.

You can't teach an old dog new tricks... and he is the most stubborn of them all. The new recruits are good enough for the Big Ten... but they won't be game changers. The ACC, SEC, Big 12, Pac 10, and Big East are still way above the Big 10. He will look good in the conference but that is where it ends.

We are stuck with Foster until he retires... it was a bad hire to begin with as the kids deserve better treatment as athletes at our fine university.

By the way... this wonderful academic that you brag about only had four OSU scholar athletes and not one who played many minutes. Don't brag about him graduating his players as most college female athletes graduate. On the men's side that is special... but not on the women's. They don't have many financial options and know they need their degree.

First you didn't address the first two points that I brought to your attention where you were spouting off bad info...

The girls he is bringing in this year and next were offered by the schools you talk about ACC, SEC, Big 12, et...

He brought in one of the best last year in Lavendar and she is only going to continue to get better...

It was not a bad hire...The team had been to 9 NCAA tourneys before Foster and not one since 92-93...They have been to 6 in his 6 years as coach...

Also not sure where you get the scholar athletes bullshit from...Go check his resume and all the academic honors his players have received...

Not sure where the sour grapes are coming from...But at least bring arguments that aren't based no anything...

I understand he has had his struggles in post season play and I understand that his teams need be more athletic...

But lets be honest to ourselves, we want our girls to win a NC...IMO with Lavendar in the middle and the athletes/shooter we are putting around here and Prahlis at the pg we are going to have a team that can match up with people, maybe not this year, but the year after...

When we had Davenport in the middle it was hard to run...There were 4 years of his time here...Then last year was a youthful team to go along with Packer who was a solid player, and was a great player coming out of high school, but she struggled at times...

And many people wine about his recruiting...I have said it before, but at times in womens basketball recruiting it can be hard for tOSU to pull in ALL the top talent from Ohio due to teams like Duke, Tennessee, Uconn, etc having that big reputation...These teams are there every year, when they were young they were the teams, and they still are the girls grew up idolizing the players on those teams because those were the best players...

We really got what we needed from last years recruiting class, an athletic pg that can dribble, shoot, and pass and another athletic wing to go along with ones that were frosh last year...

I knew you are going to jump:biggrin2: on that post and that's fine that we can disagree and be civil about it. I will say this that Foster has to be telling recruits that he is going to play a more up-tempo game or his recruiting for non-post players would be horrific. We shall see but it will go against the offensive philosophy that he has had since he has been a head coach.

Just for a reference point...Running does mean up and down, 40 minutes from hell like the old arkansas nolan richardson days...

What it does mean is that we will take advantage of times to push the ball, but when you have a girl like Lavendar in the low post you can't just run her up and down the court and not get her the ball...

Also if we take care of the ball and make shots, and get to the rim we will be better this year...

Prahlis will be able to find open teammates on the break...and we will have athletic wings in the Johnson and Jackson to go along with Tribelcock who will spot up and knock down the jumper, and Star Allen in back and she is a pretty athletic 4...

Let's be honest. Foster has won numerous Big 10 titles but every time we have gone to the NCAA tournament that has been two and done if not one and done.

I will admit that almost every year he brings in one player who is very highly ranked but he has missed on numerous, and I mean numerous, girls from Ohio who were very highly ranked also. I believe the reason for that is because of his offensive philosophy (Post oriented) and while you are happy with him I am not. I am sorry but we just disagree on this one.

Instead of merely complaining about Coach Foster do you have any suggestions about who realistically you would replace him with? Not too many options with his credentials, I'm guessing.
Oh, I think there are a number of coaches out there with Foster's credentials plus some. Take a look at the teams who finished in the top 10 last season and you could pick a few. You also have to remember that while I do not know exactly what Foster is making, I think Ohio State could entice some of the better coaches in the country just with their contract offer. Saying that, I will have to see what he does next year with his offensive philosophy. He says that he is going to play a little more up-tempo and if he does that and recruits Ohio I am fine with him but he must do those things.
